Ok, just picked up a Ruger 10/22 the other day.  Original plan was to get a factory model with the black stock with stainless barrel and receiver and then fix it up keeping the black/stainless look.  But I ended up with a black stock, black receiver, & stainless barrel.  Really didn't want the black receiver, but for the price I decided to get it.  Now I'm looking at getting an OD green Hogue stock for it and putting a bull barrel on it.  I've narrowed it down to Green Mountain, but can't decide between 5 that I found in the limited stock that dealers seem to have right now.  Gun will mostly be for plinking/target shooting.  These are the 5:

1. 16" blued with threaded muzzle
2. 18" blued, fluted, drilled & tapped for Volq. scope base
3. 18" blued, fluted, drilled & tapped for Volq scope base, black Volq base attached,  AND threaded muzzle
4. 20" blued, fluted
5. 20" matte OD green, fluted

I like #3 and #5 (has me really curious how the matte OD green barrel would look in that OD green stock with the black receiver), but they are probably a bit more than I really should spend considering I still need to buy a scope for it.  #1, 2, & 4 are all about the same price.  What do you guys think?

#1 and stick a can on it.

I went with the YHM 18" threaded bull bbl. running my can on it, stupid quiet and stupid accurate....tiny ragged 5 shot holes at 25 yards. I know it's not among your choices, just sayin'

Get a Beyer barrel with the shroud for use with a can or a normal
16" threaded for a can, no need for a longer barrel.
He will make the barrel the way you like with flutes or even diamond flutes

Adams and Bennett barrells are the best bang for the buck hands down. Unless you got the cash to spend on other higher end stuff.

Whatever you pick, pick fast!  I waited too long and all the barrels I wanted are out of stock everywhere.

Well I guess I've narrowed it down to 2 now, both bull barrels with threaded muzzles.  Trying to decided between a Green Mountain 18" fluted that is drillled/tapped with the Volq. scope base or an ER Shaw 16" solid barrel.  Not sure what the difference in weight and feel would be.  About $50 difference in price by the time I add the thread protector and extended receiver scope base with the Shaw barrel.  If I win the lotto and can afford a can one day, I suppose the shorter barrel would be a little more balanced even though 2 inches doesn't seem that much.

Average is 1 lb per 6 inches of bull barrel for steel.
A Beyer bull barrel is 1 lb at 16 inches.
