Okay, so I just snagged another rotory mag for my 10/22 Magnum, so I'm up to 4 now.

My question is, how often should I disassemble and clean the rotory mags?

I am a bit of a clean freak and I disassemble and clean them after every outing, but I'm wondering if I am being too anal about it.

Thanks guys

Uh, not to be too offensive, but , have you sought professional help?

Regular .22LR 10/22s go thousands, maybe tens of thousands of rounds without mag issues.

Yet you say you clean your MAGAZINES after every outing?

Clean them when they quit working.

Cleaning .22 magazines, and especially lubricant free .22WMR magazines suggests clinically significant OCD, worthy of treatment.

Unless there is some reason why your mags are getting exceptionally dirty, cleaning them after each outing is probably excessive.  Giving them a good wipe-off is probably all that they will ever require.

For the benefit of those not familiar with how to dis-assemble and clean a Ruger 10-22 rotary mag: http://www.heypete.com/pete/shooting/rugermag.html

Write down how many rounds shot through the mags (keep the # as close as possible) and wait until one or the other malfunctions.  Establish new Preventative Maintenance interval at 1/2 the # of rds required for failure, and you are GTG.

I've got upwards of 20,000 rds through the original magazine of my first 10/22 over the last 20 years or so, and it's never been disassembled, or needed to be.
