Does a dedicated ar22 require the buffer and buffer spring?  I'm trying to build a dedicated 22 upper from scratch. Need ideals and opinions on parts. Thanks

Yes, and no.

While a standard buffer and spring don't have any use retarding bolt travel in a .22, they are needed to hold the .22 bolt in place.

I leave mine in the lower so I don't have to fish for parts when I swap uppers.  However, I also use mine on an SBR so it wasn't worthwhile for me to do the multiple lowers route.
