at first today, my 10/22 ran like a CHAMP. i was laying out .22s fast and furious. after a couple mags, it became a bolt action rifle.

ETA- it was doing this with both federal and remington ammo. i cleaned the rifle just before this trip to the range.

it was doing one of 2 things for the rest of the range trip-

felt like it wasnt cocking the hammer, so a live round would be in the chamber, but the trigger wouldnt respond.

i was firing a round, then pulling back the charging handle to strip out a perfectly good round and put a new on in the chamber.

i sprayed some lube in the action but it didnt solve anything.

is this a matter of being dirty? do i need to tear down the bolt?  new springs?

im not having much luck with .22s lately. ive got an entire spring kit on the way for my Ruger MKII which is stove piping, failing to reset the hammer, FTE, FTF,

sounds like a bad extractor

well i tore it down. i know the old owner "cleaned it after every time he went shooting"

but i think he just meant the barrel.  there was quite a bit of carbon built up under the extractor. ( the hook that grabs onto the rim of the case )

i cleaned out the trigger assembly really well, sprayed out the bolt with brake cleaner and dried it up, oiled everything that looked like it needed oil.

i didnt break the bolt down to pieces, just figured the break cleaner would get to the inside parts. just couldnt figure it out.

anyways i just ran 6-7 rounds through it, it ran perfect again. at the range it would only fire one shot at a time so i seem to have solved the problem.

shouldnt these be able to fire hundreds of rounds without being a jamo-matic without cleaning?
