Can my factory barrel which is the tapered 18" type be cut to 14" and threaded for a flash hider? does anyone do this for less then the price of a new barrel?

Mine is.  To 16.5", at least.  My gunsmith charged me $35 to do it.  I got a take off barrel for about $20, so my total cost was about $55.  Less than Tactical Inc charges for a prethreaded factory profile barrel.

Sure, it's no big deal. The flash hider will need to be just over 2" long and blind pinned so you won't need to register it as an SBR.
