well i just got a brand new 10/22 (the cheap model from walmart)
took it out shooting for the first time....dissapointing though.
about half way through each magazine I shot, when I pulled the trigger it wouldnt do anything.

The firing pin did not drop.  It was like it was on safety almost, but it wasnt.

It continued to keep doing it every 5-10 rounds,

I would have to eject the shell that was in it and pull the magazine out (the magazine was hard to pull out when it did that) then rechamber a new round.

It wasn't a problem with the ammo because I could rechamber that round and it would fire, it was almost like it  was a trigger problem, like the trigger wasnt resetting or something...

I tried 3 diffrent types of ammo.
It was not dud rounds (I thought it was at first).

Has anyone ever had this problem?  The trigger not resetting or something like that?

Help!

1) Clean and lightly lube it.

-or-

2) See someone who knows more about guns than you do....

damn, I was hoping it would be something I was doing causing it, I hate to call ruger or take it to a gunsmith since I just bought it 3 hours ago, any other ideas?  Its like the trigger doesn't reset, you can visually see it doesn't reset.  It didn't do it the last 20-30 rounds I fired, but it did do it about 10 times out of 100 rounds.

In the newest cheap model the trigger group is made ofplastic.  I just bought one that I thought was a great deal and a big sale $175 and it turned out to be this model.  Does yours have the sort of weird textured finish on the reciver and the extended mag release?.

Did you clean before you started shooting?
With the new finishs you might have to strip the inside of the action of the paint for it to run right.
Try fitting the mag in the stock without the barrel and action in it.
When i put a different stock on mine i had to file the stock so the mag would fit in and drop free by its own weight.
What ammo?

With the gun unloaded try this
pull the bolt handle back and release it to go forward
Hold it slightly short of closed so you dont ping the chamber with the Fpin

pull the trigger and listen
then repeat

if the gun fires and you can here hammer hit the fpin every time then you have a reset problem.

this means you can reset it manually but it wont reset with the ammo pressure.
Look for anything that might obstruct the bolt from coming back and resetting the hammer

If you get totally frustrated send me the trigger group i will test it in one of my 10/22's

Check the hammer spring strut. If it is in upside down it will cause all kinds of
problems. I had 2 brand new 10/22s the strut was upside down. The retaining
clip(B-45) on the end should have the slot up when installed....
