I know there was a thread somewhere that had people saying there were some bad lots of Fed bulk pack from Wally work and they were inconsistant as all get out. Well I went shooting this weekend and I think I found one of those lots ..... anyone know if Federal would stand behind them or anything? And any idea of what the lot number was? I saved the box with the lot number on it. lot number is 1BV733 |
Same here, the federal packs are the only 22's I shoot, never had any major problems. Are you sure it wasn’t your gun? Just a thought. |

Oh yeah ... I am sure that it wasn't my gun, we were shooting them thru a model 60, a GSG5, an AR with a conversion, and a S&W 422 pistol. You could audibly hear a difference MAJOR difference between some rounds, some sounded like they stayed subsonic while others sounded as if they went supersonic. On multiple occasions it was such a difference in report we looked thru the barrel to make sure there wasnt a squib in it and have relegated the remainder of the box to single shots only with my buddys children since they arent experienced enough to know that there might be a problem. |
Try shooting Remington Bulk, you'll hear the same thing. That being said, the Remington Bulk groups fairly well out of my 10/22. I think thats the way it is with cheap bulk .22 ammo. Thats what it is, cheap plinkin ammo. Unless you want to buy the higher Dollar, better quality ammo, you pretty much live with it. Cheap and consistent just can't co-exist, you get one (cheap=bulk) or the other (consistent=match and better quality more expensive ammo). |
When you mentioned the difference between the sounds I remember shooting some 22's that were left in the trunk of my cousins car that leaks and we believe the rounds got to moist and caused the malfunctions we too noticed a sound difference and a reliability issue, but either way I wouldn't give up on the feds that quickly. One bad batch really dint cause you that much money. |
| You know, I've had that same sub-sonic vs. super-sonic variation on occasion in just about ALL of the 22-cal ammo that I have shot, whether it be bulk pack or 50-box. Fed, Win, Rem bulk ammo are all guilty of this occasional problem. I believe it's just the nature of inexpensive rimfire ammo. Sure, you can spend $5 a box for 50-rounds of Eley or whatever, but then you might as well shoot center fire rounds. For my money, I've found the 525 and 550-round Fed bulk value packs the best and most consistent ammo for my GSG-5, 10/22s and Browning Buckmarks. |

Quoted: Trukreltrog your avatar sucks, too spooky. Re the ammo problem you are having, I was having an issue last week with my MK3 it was jamming every few rounds, and the shot before it would sound different. Turns out my pistol was gunked up pretty badly... cleaned it and ran over 500 rounds today, of the Fed outta same box. Clean up your guns, run some more of the ammo and if same problem call mfg. Or just call them first. |
