Ive read that cutting down a stock 10/22 barrel will only give you "Pie Plate size groupings" anyone have any experience with this? I know it would'nt be a tackdriver at say 12 inches long , but pie plates????

Before anyone says it, yes, it will be a legal taxed and raped SBR.

Depends on how your barrel shoots now? If re-crowned correctly little will change IF you
do your part. My Ruger Charger barrel from Rimfire Technologies shoots VERY well.

The vertical stringing of the group is caused from the target cable system bounce.

Not bad for a 12" pistol barrel

As a tax-free option , if this is for suppressor use , consider this : Tactical Solutions offers their SBX barrel  . This is an aluminum 12" bull-barrel (steel-lined bore) , threaded 1/2"x28 , with a permanently-attached suppressor shroud to make 16.5" . I just put mine together today , with the Hogue stock and SWR Warlock . It is very light . It is pretty much a drop-in replacement , although it may require minor-fitting with fine sandpaper or emery cloth . You can sell the factory barrel to help offset the cost ...

barrel length only changes velocity.

a quality barrel with a good crown will be "accurate" if it is 20" or 10".

There are a couple guys over at Rimfirecentral that do a setback and re chamber with a re crown. Some of them have shot some awesome groups with the factory barrels

The indoor range is limited to 25yrds, our outdoor range was still closed up until this
weekend. I'm hoping the weather will settle down so I can shoot it at 50 and 100yrds.
REAL soon!

Nice!
I only ask since I may or may not be kicking around a threaded 12"/suppressor combo.
Still, it would be limited to the factory chamber, so I doubt I'd be pulling groups like that!

Thanks guys, Im looking at doing around 7 inches (Of course with  tax stamp)

If I can get a decent group at 100 max Ill be happy. Think 7" is pushing it? I figure a decent pistol has less than that and shoots fine.

When I get my 10/22 SBR, I'll get the barrel cut down to about 4.5", so that the cheap bulk packs shoot subsonic.
