I am a college student and 556 is becomming to expensive to shoot with any regularity.  So I am looking to buy or build a .22 rifle of some sort.

The question is should i get a ciener conversion or a 10/22?

I like the idea of the ciener kit becuase i wouls like to begin participating in competitions (assumming i get a good job or 556 price drop).

But i aso like the aftermakret aspect on the 10/22 (i like to tinker and accessorize my guns).

Please make any argument for or against both so i can better make a decision.

Thanks a lot!!!

I have both.

In your case it might be better to get the 10/22.  You can mod to your hearts delight.

The Ciener will be difficult to find.  Do not order it via Ciener.  They have really bad customer service.

Midway USA or Brownells would be the better bet.  Mags are expensinve at 30 bucks a pop.

It all depends on your desire.

If you want to shoot an AR with a 22 LR round then you have an answer.

If you want another rifle cheap to shoot then get a 10/22.

you will spend way more money converting a ruger, than getting a kit.  get the kit.

what kind of difference can i expect for accuracy?  I'm sure i will eventually end up with both, but for now money is an issue.

The conversion kit can be fairly accurate.  That depends on your AR15.

On the other hand the 10/22 maybe accurate right out of the box.  Maybe not.  Regardless it is cheaper to buy a 10/22 from walmart and some mags.

The 10/22 is right around 200 bucks and the mags are 12 bucks a piece.

I got lucky and both are accurate.

Get the 10/22 IMHO.  Get the conversion kit later.  The mags cost 30 bucks each for the AR15 cnversion.
