Ok here is a weird problem that I am having with my 10/22.  I load the 10 round mags up, put it in the rifle, pull back on the bolt, flick safety off, pull trigger....CLICK!!!  The round has been taken out of the magazine, is in the chamber, there is a very very faint mark on the rim.  I eject the mag, and then attempt to clear the chamber by pulling on the bolt, it will not come loose from pulling the bolt, but it will now fire the round if the mag is replaced and the trigger is pulled, and feed and extract the next 9 rounds flawlessly.  I am at a loss at to what can be causing this problem.  I hope I have explained the problem sufficiently for someone here to diagnose the problem.

Is this a new rifle or a used one. Also, are there any aftermarket parts? Is this the factory barrel or an aftermarket barrel?

If you have swapped barrels make sure the extractor slot is lined up correctly to match the extractor on the bolt itself.

What ammo are you using? In my match chambered barrel CCI Subsonics won't chamber all the way under recoil spring alone, I have to physically push forward on the charging handle to get them to cahmber enough to fire,

The problem sounds like the rounds are not seating all the way in the chamber. Could be an excessively dirty chamber or enough crude in the reciever to cause the bolt to slow enough to keep it from chambering, althugh unlikely. As far as the extraction problem get a Volquartsen extractor it will fix the extraction issues.

Also check this thread to see if this might be the issue also:

Is the mag spring wound to tight.  Try loading just eight rounds n the mag, and see if it operates correct the first time you fire.

Fixed the problem by switching from CCI to Federal Blue Box Bulk packs.  Runs like a champ and I cant notice any accuracy difference.
