I'm going on an excursion into the woods and would like to catch me some varmint!  =P.  I'd like something with cheap ammo, so I can take it to the range and plink as well.  I saw someone at the range with a semi auto ruger 10/22 that had a folding stock.  How would this do?  Also, does anybody know the model of that rifle?  I'm also wondering how a p22 would do on the trail?

I am pretty sure that Ruger does not make folding stock, and that you would have to buy a standard one, and change out the stock.  There are plenty of places that have folding stocks, midway.com is one of them.

I would go with the 10/22 over the p22 due to versatility. Check out Aguila ammo, they have some 60 grain 22lr that I think would offer some good penetration for a variety of purposes.

I would not call a P22 a trail gun. As for pistols- MKII or III target models are nice, or try a ruger single six. A little reveolver in 22 hornet would be sweet as well, with the capability to take larger game if need be...
Otherwise, any rifle or carbine in 22lr, 17HMR, 22 hornet would do the trick.

Thanks guys..so if I were to buy something like this: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/productview?saleitemid=692289&t=11082005

what else would I need to complete the rifle?  Any recommended parts?  How easy is it to put together?

I'ld go with a MkII as well.  Easy to carry and with good sights they are plenty accurate.

That being said I don't think I'ld let a 22 be my only weapon in the woods.
