| My father and I bought 2, they are accurate as hell but are very ammo sensitive, I had contacted Remington and they said to ship the rifle to them. My reply of course was , you want me spend $22 bucks to ship a $150 rifle to you? I've bought several new mags and experimented with ammo, both mine and my dads won't feed anything remington, his likes cci stingers, mine likes rws hv. I have since bought a 10/22 and am converting it to hipower trainer. |

there are two side known probs with the remmy. first is the mag. you should have at least a 3rd generation magazine, which has a fatter bottom , with a 10 inside of a circle, on the bottom of it. if you don't , send yours back to remmy, and they will give you new mags. secondly, the action rails inside, must have the right tension. you must tighten them to just finger tight!!! anything else to tight, will bind, to loose, will be wobbly and bind!!! also you can use anylube you want on the rest of the insides, but those rails should have a nice dry lube on them. Also , if you can take them out, and polish them up , to a high mirror finish, super smooth, this will help. any other tips, go here. http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/ |
What effect did changing the hammer have? |
| I must be the luckiest guy in the world. My 597 (3 years old) runs just fine. Not only that but it has a pretty damn good trigger for a $130 rifle too. I did have some problems with the gen2 mags but with the current mags, it runs 100%. The really early models did have some problems (other then the magazine issues) and I suggest you go to the Remington section of rimfirecentral.com to get more info on the issues and fixes. |

I bought mine very early, too. In fact, they were selling them side-by-side with the 522 Viper at the gun show where I bought mine. I've had a couple of problems, but no jamming issues. The first problem was that the extractor departed after a couple thousand rounds. Remington fixed it. That was when it was about a year and a half old. After that, I found out what happens when you put too much lube on the rails. Since then, no problems. BTW, I'm still using 1st generation mags with no issues. Sam |
| you guys who are running the first gen mags, got lucky, or unlucky as it were, and have the wrong demensions, which make them run right. You see, remmy found out the inner width of the space of the mag, was running up the cases, against each other, instead of just pushing, which was providing too much friction, and the spring was a bit weaker than the new ones, so the old springs could not overcome the extra friction , to push up all the rounds, smoothly , and fast enough. |
