| I'm looking for some input on the folding stocks for a 10/22. I'll give you a little background on what I'm looking for. I teach firearms safety and usually about 25-30% of the students bring 10/22s to class. I try to give a little 15 minute education on what's happening in the world of gun control and for a while I've been using my Mini-14 to show that the public's perception of evil, based on cosmetics, is just plain dumb. I demonstrate to them how it can go from looking almost like their 10/22s to looking more like an AK or EBR just by swapping stocks and changing the magazine. I think if I use the exact same rifle as theirs, it'll be much more effective. So I want it to be able to do a quick changeover from the factory stock the 10/22 and yet have the evil assault rifle look. Who makes the one I'm looking for? |

A view from a fellow instructor: Go with a stock that you can use for fun as well as one that you can use for training. Pick up a Choate sidefolder. Remove the retaining bolt (the thing behind the receiver) and attach some sort of threading system back there. Instead of hammering that pin in and out, have a screw or something you can easily screw in/unscrew. Mike |

+1 on a Choate or Butler Creek folder. It won't matter if HR 1022 passes. "(30) The term `semiautomatic assault weapon' means any of the following: *** (D) A semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine, and that has-- (i) a folding or telescoping stock; (ii) a threaded barrel; (iii) a pistol grip; (iv) a forward grip; or (v) a barrel shroud. *** (b) Related Definitions- Section 921(a) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following: *** (42) Pistol Grip- The term `pistol grip' means a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip." As I read it, HR 1022 will ban the sale of 10/22s. The 10/22 is a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine, and that has a "pistol grip" as re-defined by HR 1022 |
