Who has a marlin 39A?  I have one(actually it's my dads) that i've been shooting for the past few months.  It was the first real gun I had shot.  Now I'm addicted.  except for going on trips I haven't gone over 5 days without shooting it.  It's so fun to use.

What ammo do you use in it?  I've been using Winchester Wildcat because it's cheaper (7.90 a brick of 500), shiny, and isn't quite as loud as the other types of ammo (except for the subsonics).

I have one and I tried everything from CCI to Eley. All the high speed ammo I used did not group as I would like it to. Target ammo was the best and of those Federal Target was the best. Unfortunately Federal Target has been replaced by Federal Gold Medal, which is good but not as good as Federal Target. I did lay in a supply of Federal Target that I keep for hunting.

I have one.  A Golden 39A,  about a '68 if I remember right.

You couldn't ask for a sweeter .22 lever action rifle.

I really need to take it out with a few boxes of various types of ammo and see what it really
likes best.   I've never actually done that.

I had a 39M it had a 20" barrel otherwise the same.  They are classic and extremely reliable. Mine digested anything I fed it. I would shoot a brick everytime I took it out. I used Win, Fed or Rem whatever was availabe. BobK

I own a 39A which I bought in the 80's.

I shoot Remington "Golden Bullets" thru it and it'll easily
group 1" at 50 yrds.

I have a Simmons 3x9 scope on it: Not the best but very affordable.

I just bought a 39A for my father-in-law.  We'll probably shoot it today.  It is in good condition.  I was able to get it for $229 and tax.  New ones around here are close to $400 when you can find one in stock.  How did I do on the price?

I'd say you did great, but i don't know much about pricing guns.  I've never seen a used one or a new one for sale near me.  I think the suggested retail on new ones is like $500, but guns usually don't go for the suggested price.  So, i'd say you did good

We took out my father-in-law's new to him 39A for a little informal plinking in the backyard.  We were impressed by its accuracy.  After fully loading the tube with 19 .22LR rounds, it seems like you can shoot forever compared to my 10 round clip in my 10/22.  The only problem was if the lever was stroked too quickly, the gun would jam and have to be unloaded and cleared.

how accurate would you say it is? mine will put 5 shots in a circle the size of a quarter at 25 yrds from a rest...but I'm not the best shot either.

Mine doesn't have that problem, it likes to be stroken fast...feels nice and smooth(I hardly ever do it though).  Mine's only jammed twice, and i'm not sure why it did...probly too much junk in it.  Mine use to have problems with the remington thunderbolts.  They would get stuck entering the action from the magazine.  Somehow they stopped doing that, though.

We did not shoot any target groups.  We were shooting at plastic soda bottles and other containers.  If you did your part, the gun delivered.  It just needs a thorough cleaning to correct the feeding problem when stroked fast.  My father-in-law is very happy with it.  He's wanted one for almost 50 years.
