I mean, it'll work. I do like the MOLLE II buttpack. They work great as a British style 'poncho roll' too, to sit on TOP of your USGI style buttpack, when you aren't rocking a pack. |

@Flamingdragon Check out Carcajou Tactical's 6x9 Sustainment Pouch. I have two. They're holding up superbly. It's much trimmer and neater than a USGI Field Pack/Buttpack, and the pockets around the outside are great for organizing smaller items. The interior is loop field, so you could add dividers if you wanted to. |
Don't forget about the Trail of Beers Happy Hour!

I can check that out. Here's my other setup that I have, I call it my Armageddon belt, it's got everything for rolling heavy. I applied it to hot/humid tropical environment like FL and such. Everything was thought out to be the most practical it could be. Sure it doesn't blend in and camouflage really well in tropical rainforest environment, but it doesn't retain heat from the sun nearly as much as ranger green or woodland camo does. Here in central FL we have vast wide open prairies that look like a sandy desert but actually feels worse because the high humidity on top of the sun beating you down from overhead. I figure if I need to blend in and camouflage myself I could throw on the woodland camo poncho over myself. I also figured camo and green kind of automatically makes you appear to be a combatant, whereas coyote is probably the most common color of hikers and outdoorsman. My harness could be better, but I haven't found the right TT harness I wanted, but the one I have at the moment is lightweight and simple. What's really good about this kit is the Vtac outer belt with the LBT 2" rigid duty belt. The Vtac battle belt has a rigid stiffener in it, combined with the 2" rigid inner belt, and malice clips on the pouches, the whole rig is incredibly stout and rigid, and can hold a lot of weight without folding over. The Vtac belt is also decently ventilated, which is a plus. Once I've tried it, I could never go back to a floppy belt now. " /> |

Could definitely do worse. Get a surplus PLCE harness and add 2 extra D-rings over the water bottle pouches (it's easy) It would be a huge improvement over the harness you currently have. If you can't find one, let me know, I have some new Danish ones in stock. I'd grab a can of green camo spray paint and throw it in the garage. If the Cuban paratroopers start dropping on your neighborhood, you could spray a few stripes and spots of green on the coyote camo to break up the large blotches of coyote. |

Not the best pic, as it’s a screengrab from the security camera, but caught myself going for a little stroll earlier in the @marnsdorff rig I bought from the EE poster a couple months back. Using a dozen 5.45 mags and a few different AK74s for heavier and heavier hikes on the trail up and over the mountain that is our backyard. Usually do it after lifting in the garage gym, so the clothing isn’t very ‘tactical’ though I guess I was harnessing my inner Rhodesian with those shorts today Attached File |

I’m sure you or someone else has said it in this thread already, but do your triple mag pouches fit 40rd 7.62x39 and/or 45rd 5.45x39 AK mags? Don’t have many, but good to know and I’m not near the rig at the moment to just try it. |

I am working on a 40 round pmag pouch for one of the guys on here, but I doubt that will fit the bigger AK mags either. You are probably going to need specialized pouches for those. |

Quick pictures I just took- The Project Redacted small pouch fits 3 40 round AR15 PMags. I only have 2 40s upstairs so I crammed 2 30s in-between, 4 30 round PMags don't fit because of the bases. I don't have an AK to check their mags, or a .308 for that matter. I wouldn't call it the best fitting lid like this but 3 seems fine and you can run some shock cord around it to snug it up. He has a tall pouch but I think it's also wider. I don't have any real interest in carrying 4 40s in a belt pouch. fwiw my order took over a month to ship with no indication of that on the website. I read he gets swamped sometimes and then pulls his listings down to catch up.https://www.projectredacted.store/product-page/all-pouches-select-all-options Attached File Attached File |

What I figured. I only have a few, but was just curious more than anything. Twelve mags of 40rds of 7.62x39, or 45rd mags of 5.45x39, would definitely add some weight to the setup

Are these marketed as designed to work with 40rd PMAGs? Kinda look like they’re a touch too small for them, and a bit too large for getting to 30rd PMAGs easily; especially if you had gloves on. |

The small and the medium are listed as being for 30 round mags (3 and 4 PMags or 4 and 5 aluminum mags respectively), I agree they're a little tall for 30s and maybe a little short for 40s. It does fit a round Nalgene very well, without a lot of vertical stretch (might even carry better), the back does round out a little; I haven't mounted on anything yet so that could change. It's two wide but maybe should be three wide. Again, the reverse buckles drew me in after looking at pouch, after pouch that has its buckle fall below the pouch. Attached File Attached File Attached File Both 6 mags and 3 and a round Nalgene fit well, 2 mags and a canteen has some play. I think this is totally usable for a belt kit, but I'm using it as a minuteman bag. The pouch has half length inserts on both sides and the front, the sides will not fit a PMag and I don't see putting a mag in the front slot. The inserts are a little annoying, but you can invert it (did it tonight) and cut them out (didn't do that). The interior back has some velcro so I want to get a double AR mag insert. |

Daughter and I came across a fallen tree blocking the dirt track near the back of the property last week. Charlie doesn’t get much R&R… Attached File This was actually the first time I’d worn my ALICE medium with the @marnsdorff or the Brit belt kits, and it worked great! Every other time I’ve worn a pack it was just a soft assault pack vice a framed ruck. The shelf thing is legit. |

The defense contractor upcharge makes this a non option. Principally you don't want to reward them with purchases either. Waiting for 500 dollar equipment to become 30 dollar surplus on eBay is the way to go. USMC sub belt with an after market h harness does 90% of the job for your civilian needs. That other 10% is military specific anyway. |

That other 10% is military specific anyway. Most of the guys who are getting sets of belt kit aren't doing it for 'civilian needs'. Also, by the time you add up the surplus stuff, it gets expensive. Not $500 expensive, but significantly more than $30. I just priced these out for you: USMC subbelt, with H harness- $50 2 x double USMC surplus mag pouches - $40 2 x USMC canteen pouches - $40 MOLLE 2 buttpack - $30 Total - $180 for used. $250-300 for new stuff. The difference in cost is getting you a system that is far more comfortable and stable than the pieced together kits. There ARE budget options out there though, and if you'd read the whole thread, you'd see alot of talk of various budget options. |

@marnsdorff Would something like the British Tactical XL utility pouch possibly work as a buttpack stand-in? I may have a line on one, but you know more about that style pack than I do by miles. Looking at the dimensions I might prefer a little more depth though. I currently have a setup based on a MOLLE/PALS belt so despite the downsides to non-sewn pouches are something I already have to live with. Maybe I'll upgrade to something with sewn-on bottle and utility/buttpack pouches down the line. 24x20.5x9cm, so roughly 9.5x8x3.5 inches, ~4.5l/~270cu.in. PALS webbing on top, sides, and rear. Probably Multicam instead of solid color. |

Probably Multicam instead of solid color. Looking at it, it looks decent enough, other than one thing. The attachment system on the back is the laser cut stuff - which I'm hesitant to give a thumbs up for stuff like this. Laser cut molle attachments end up stretching if loaded down with any weight, and there have been a number of instances of them starting to fail over time - the most common one being on buttpacks / water bottle pouches along the back of your belt where people rest their pack on top of. So there is that. You are right - that utility pouch is slimmer than a normal buttpack. It is about the same size, width and height wise, as the buttpacks I make, which are about the same size as the old USGI buttpacks. Mine use 6 columns of MOLLE, as does the pack you posted. I have molle on the sides of the ones I make - 4 columns wide. The one you posted has 2 columns wide, so it is going to be slimmer. I mean, if you're getting a deal, it doesn't look bad for the money. But for that retail price, I'd either scour ebay for a fireforce buttpack (they're all going for insane prices right now) or wait until I do a run of buttpacks, which I'll be doing here in a month or three for my website (which is almost done) I'd also point you to the Velocity Systems Jungle Buttpack if you don't mine the laser cut stuff. Their buttpacks are pretty nice - again, except for the laser cut molle. (Some of the ones I've seen fail have been the Velocity buttpack and utility pouches) The Velocity ones are well made otherwise and will probably be cheaper than the one you posted at full price. There are some other options out there - most have been posted on here - but the above are the best options. If you do get one of those utility pouches at a deal, I'd say grab it. Something like $40? Sure thing. You can always throw it on a pack or something later if you decide to get something different. That'd make a good utility pouch on a pack. If you don't like any of the above options, you can look at a set of two British utility pouches instead of the one buttpack. It's not as American - I prefer the buttpack - but it works. Look at these below - surplus, new condition, British MOLLE utility pouches. $10. These are very well made. They will fit 2 columns of molle - you can fit 3 of them in the space of that one buttpack. They also make good water bottle / canteen pouches too if you need some of those. For the money, this is the best deal out there. https://colemans.com/british-military-waterproof-utility-pouch Honestly, for the cost of that pouch, I'd just save towards a sewn on rig if it was full price. Throw some random pouches on there instead. The Crossfire rig is going to be about 4 times the retail price of that pouch you posted. (the rear buttpack on the Crossfire rig, the XL one, is about the same size as the pouch you posted for comparison) If you don't have a decent pouch to throw on there, get 2 or 3 of those British utility pouches I posted above and save the rest of your money towards a Crossfire DZ rig or one of mine or one of the other decent rigs out there. |

I do have a couple of the British utility pouches--they're the MTP, feels like vinyl-lined type--and they're sort of my main gripe about the rig at the moment. For me they end up being about 2.5 column spacing on the PALS-type straps so they fit a little awkwardly. Guess I'll just hold off until one of your packs is ready (or, better yet, a hybrid stitched rig with buttpack and water bottle pouches sewn but PALS/MOLLE grid for ammo or admin pouches); I'm not 100% convinced about the utility pouch setup for my perceived wants and needs. |

Yea, the fit of the utility pouches can be wonky. I've seen the spacing range from 2 columns to 2.5 (like you saw) to one that was a full on 3 column one. They're funky, but for the money the best deal. I getcha, I'm a buttpack man myself, and though I see the pros in utility pouches, I like buttpacks better. Thus why I make what I make. I'm going to do a run of buttpacks as soon as I get caught up on my open orders. I also have a few sets of my beltkits that are cosmetic seconds. Sewn on buttpack and water bottle pouches, MOLLE grid for ammo pouches on the sides (4 columns on each side). Complete with ammo pouches to match. (2 x triple mag pouches on each side. They also take 2 x AK mags each if that's your thing) If you are looking for a deal, I was going to list these on my site for less than half what I do regular belt kits for. They've been sitting around collecting dust until my site is up. I've got 4 or 5 of them in various camos. They're the same pattern as all my other belt kits. |

Belt kit videos are always relevant on this thread! I like seeing all the different ways people do things. As for those utility pouches - you can see how those fit 'ok' on his rig. On a note - he needs a sternum strap. |

You know, it never ceases to amaze me, the ingenuity 'round this place. Reading some comments, a few thoughts. I don't think you can say it enough. Get whatever works for you, your sit, and your pocketbook. Everything else is pretty much irrelevant. I designed a belt kit, after running around in the weeds for a few years, and it reflected my take on what I thought would be the perfect belt kit. That beings said, you can do quite well with US and Brit surplus, not to mention Marnsdorff kit, and all the other usual suspects. The trick is to get out there and get some dirt on it. The amount of talent here astounds. That tiger-striped pouch looks amazing. Not enough 40-rd stuff out there. I hope Manrsdorff hires some folks and sets up shop soon. We need more domestic mfg-ing going on. |

I was working last night on a pattern for a 40 round pouch I've been promising one of the guys on here for awhile now....finally got caught up on my OEM stuff for now, starting to go through the last few backorders. You can't really see the pattern, but it's a modified hybrid pattern, mixing one of the patterns you sent me with my regular mag pouch patterns. Hiring more people is still on the table, but it's getting delayed a bit more while I consolidate stuff. My website is coming online here soon but I need more space before I really get serious about hiring people. I also need some more operating cash to be able to afford covering their $$$, so I need to make some more money. About to get another sewing machine though. Slowly expanding. I wish I had more time to get my personal stuff dirty, lol. Been swamped. |

Anybody know of a decent harness or suspenders for pretty cheap? I'm putting together this budget belt kit and so far, so good. 5.11 is blowing out these outer belts on clearance for " />

Surplus British or Dutch PLCE 6 point harness. WAY better than 4 point harnesses. Cheap and decently made. If you can't find one for sale, I have some new, never issued Danish surplus ones in stock. But I'd look around, they pop up in batches cheap every once in awhile. There are OD green, DPM (British 'woodland'), MTP (British 'multicam'), and the Danish has Danish Flecktarn. The DPM ones and the Danish ones are the easiest to find here. This is what the Danish one looks like. Same designs among all of them basically, just different camo. https://www.ebay.com/itm/256458742232 |

Try adding a double loop of bungie cord and a loop of paracord (slightly larger than the bungie cord, as backup) to each of the attachment points on the ATS harness. It made mine better. You can also add the same, but two sets, to each of the rear points - ie, turning each point into two attachment points - and attach one of each to the rear pouches, and the other to the canteen pouch next to it. This helps stopping the canteen pouches from sagging. |

Is it the concern of failure, lack of stiffer backing, not as stable? I do think a more traditional stiffer backing would give the pouch more stability and structure for ease of access/use. I do like the Velocity Systems Jungle Kit pouches, great features, but they really need someing inside for structure; think of a canteen cup and a canteen. ROCK6 |

fwiw my order took over a month to ship with no indication of that on the website. I read he gets swamped sometimes and then pulls his listings down to catch up.
