So I was just at ar500armor picking up my ceramic composite plates and IFAK and notices a pair of the fde mechanix gloves that have the extra knuckle guards on them. They actually looked and felt pretty sweet.
I said so and the dude standing next to me said, "they are, until they get wet and then they rip like paper" Now I'm certainly not assuming anything about what this guy did but he had a tattoo arm sleeve and looked like he was in shape. He basically looked like the guys I know who are Rangers, PJ's, GB's. Of course he certainly could have not been those either. My point is he said it so calmly and matter of factly. He then said, "check out motocross gloves. They are tough" Now I had some of those when I was younger and I do remember them being tough. What do you guys think? Was he a blowhard or is he in to something? |

They're not ripping but the fingertips are beginning to get fabric pills. |

I have had both Mechanics and Bluewater tac gloves, sold at the PX, fall apart when wet.
In 20 minutes, no. In 20 days, yes. My experience is non full grain leather delaminates, especially when under use. Full gran leather does too, just takes considerably longer. Like any piece of equipment, it is expendable at some point. Mechanics gloves are for mechanics. |

Go to outdoor research.com, and sign up for their newsletter. Do some research on their gloves while you waiting for a massive spring sale. There's no mfr/vendor with a wider range of very high quality gloves. On-sale, there can be some terrific bargains Thanks. I'll check it out. |

I was doing some training the other day in the single digits (in the negatives with wind chill) and I was wearing those plus a set of aviators gloves. I was plenty warm with them and still had good dexterity. I don't recommend the overlord gloves though. They fit to tightly on my hands and are kind of uncomfortable with not so great dexterity. |
