A regular came into work today looking for a replacement bite valve for his hydro. Looked like a camelback hose. Pulled the bladder out and didn't recognize it but was intrigued. It was the size and shape of a regular 100oz bladder, but clear, flat, semi hard plastic much like the 2 quart canteens. It had what looked like a regular canteen cap with the hose attached. Anyone know what it was? Interested to find out because I hate how a full bladder turns into a huge turd shape in a daypack.

Nope it was more rigid and rectangular. Literally like someone stretched out a 2qt canteen

Platypus?  Did it have a center piece that looked like it was holding the walls together?

No and no.

The material of the bladder was the same as a 2qt canteen, not a thin plastic like platypus, MSR, source, etc.

I know what you're talking about, seen these on old school hydration carriers. Cap has a hole in it that feeds through the drinking tube?

These rigs are made for use with GI canteens:http://www.amazon.com/Rothco-602-Canteen-Straw-Kit/dp/B001DKY1KG  I think they would be most effective on flexible 2-Qt canteens.  Unfortunately, the cap is of an entirely different thread/design than that found on the old Vietnam-era GI Canteen/floatation bladders.  IIRC, Camelbak mouthpieces and Hydrolink accessories can be retrofitted to the drinking tube of the rig linked above.

Another link, with a better picture;http://www.amazon.com/ANS-Gi-canteen-straw-kit/dp/B0081KA1XM/ref=sr_1_29?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1411925511&sr=1-29&keywords=canteen+straw

I've seen prices vary considerably on these things, so shop around.

ETA: apparently still being made by an outfit called "Lighthouse for The Blind":http://seattlelighthouse.org/what-we-do/skilcraft-products/  Scroll down to view internal link to Hydration products.  Some other hydration info on internal "Products" link.

Well I guess you learn something everyday. I have never seen that before. It looks like it would be more durable than the other types of bladders.
