What are you guys using to store all your gear in? We are moving to our new house in a week or so and I'm looking for something better to store all my shooting gear in than the rubbermaid containers I am using now. I'm thinking of getting a used metal storage cabinet like the one pictured bellow and taking out the top 2 or 3 shelves and adding a bar accross the top to hang plate carriers/packs/vest etc from. Thoughts? What are you guys using.

Saying that I store my gear in my closet isn't being helpful, is it?

Mine sits on the floor and the guns are in a locked closet while the pistol is in a fast access safe next to the bed. *shrugs*

I keep mine in a pile.

I like the metal cabinet idea. I might switch to that.

I am currently using the Stanley plastic job box with wheels from Home Depot

office cabinet as pictured. Not secure, but good for organization.

Craigslist.

Well, most people don't need quite so much storage capacity for their personal equipment/gear.

As for myself I overbought a bit over the years.  After selling-off all my collectibles from Span-Am war to early '80s, I would say that the storage item you have pictured would hold all my woodland stuff, comfortably.

Most of my gear lives in the closet as most have said. I keep my carrier and other items in an old lane hope chest I refinished(cedar box). It stores away well and out of sight. It's also has a very discreet lock on it.

Nicely done!  Nothing like re-habbing an antique. Not my personal choice of storage device, but YMMV.

Nice!

The cedar keeps every thing "fresh" and bug free.

I'll have to line my garage with cedar.

I put an old metal front door on my spare bedroom and added a keypad entry deadbolt on it. Its fast, quiet, and makes a makeshift safe room. On my old house I added a keyed door handle to my closet. It wasn't the most secure but kept roommates out of my gear.

Guess I'm lucky in that neither of my current roommates are very much into guns or gear at all, despite the whole military thing

In my closet. The plate carrier leans against a wall ready to be thrown over my head. Rest of the gear sits in a pile and the camo clothing are on hangers.

Mostly this, until the wife gets pissed.

I don't understand why people fret about how they store their gear. You bought it to take to war, right? It should be safe in your closet tuff box garage dead hooker bag basement.

Wow, now I don't feel so bad at the ginormous pile I have acquired over the years.

Makes me think we should get an allowance for the storage of all the Armys shit.

Sorry I'm a little off topic here, but your stuff on hangers is not all facing to the left

after a decade in the army, this is what my garage looks like. At work it's just more or less stacked (unceremoniously tossed) in a locker.
