I was in REI yesterday, and happened upon their Petzl gloves.  They are rock climbing/rapelling gloves.  Anybody ever see/use them?  They are like Mechanix, but serious high quality, and built hell for stout.  Only 40 bones.  Shoulda bought some, but figured I would ask first.

Funny, I saw them yesterday and thought the same thing

Yes.
I've used the medium weight rappel/belay ones as fast rope gloves. They kick ass because you can come off the rope and go straight to guns without having to ditch big gloves, or look/feel like a total mook wearing some Rambo gloves over your shooter gloves.

They're kinda stiff, and bulky (in the palms) but if fast roping is in your future they're worth it. Aside from that I like my Hatch SOG gloves better

[edit] recently I've switched to The Metolius Grip Glove (after my Petzl's died). I like how they fit better, and they are less expensive

I have a pair and they are great for rope use (their intended use), but, not so good for weapon manipulations.

They are a tad thick (IMHO) for that. They'll work in a pinch, but there are better shooting gloves available.

I've run carbine courses with those gloves and I love them. Plus, they don't stick out as tactical gloves. They suck for me with a pistol, though, since I have little baby girl sized hands. I have several pairs and break them in a bit by doing chores in them. Great gloves. And I have a lot of different gloves.

If you do lots of actual rope/cable work they don't hold up very well. I usually go through 8 to 10 pairs a year, but the company buys them so it's all good. There are better options out there for gloves.

I have 'em. I like 'em.  Comfortable.  Durable.

ETA: I've been looking at the P.I.G. gloves over at SKD Tactical. Might get a pair of those sometime.

I have had a couple pairs of the Petzl Cordex gloves, and while they are decent quality, they do get chewed up a bit if work on ropes a lot. I've been looking at the OR Handbrakes to try out for belay and rappel.
