So I hunt the high desert in the winter, and it gets pretty cold.
I have grown to love ballistic helmets because they are toasty warm (who knows, coyotes are smart maybe they will start shooting back sometime). So I am looking to upgrade from my old Kevlar pot, to something that is high cut so I can wear my electronic ear protection (which I have also grown to love since it lets me hear things I would not normally hear) what helmet? Revision Viper a1's are pretty cheap priced at sub 600 on tnvc. Crye's looks awesome too but its a grand once ya ship it. edit- http://www.botach.com/products/united-shield-spec-ops-black-ballistic-helmet.html anyone heard of that? cheap any other retailer/product I should be looking at? I know some might say forget ballistic but its very warm allows me to run only a thin face mask and stay comfortable. Also, the weight makes having a nod on the end of it is no big deal. |

For hunting? i would just wear a hat, seriously no need to wear a helmet all day when hunting.
But if you want to buy a helmet for home defense, SHTF or just because you have some cash burning a hole in your pocket go for it. I went with a ACH as they only cost like $150 and Peltor Tacticalsport, they are thin enough to fit under the helmet and cost like $80. They also make a ACH 2001 which is a high cut version of the ACH, think they run like $300 on ebay. The super cool operator helmets that crye makes are super neat but no way i would shell out $1,000 for one. Ive spent some pretty big money on tactical gear and rifles but just dont see their features being that much better to justify the $800+ price difference. |
