Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a tactical plate carrier. I am planning on running Ar500 plates-front,back and sides. I also want a fair amount of real estate for my Ar-15 mags-I was thinking 8-10 of them. Yes I know this will be heavy, but I am a big guy and the weight isn't really a problem for me. I was wondering if anybody had advice on a reasonably price carrier that could not fall apart and do the above mentioned things. I was kind of considering a banshee, but I am not entirely sold on it yet...seems maybe a little small? Thanks! |

FFS, there's like 2 identical threads in the first two pages about PC's for big guys.
You're off your rocker if you want to carry 10 mags on a PC. simply zero need for it. It's not about the weight. Banshee will size to fit you. PIG is fine too but 2x the price. What size plates? 10x12 shooters cut? 6x6 sides? ETA Kinda relevant kinda relevant too banshee for a big guy. it was on page 2 kinda relevant from page 2 third one from page 2 in regards to a shit ton of mags ETA 2 Welcome to the Tac Gear Forum where we're only jackasses b/c we care |

Also, I don't mean fat big, but 6'4 250 muscly size dimensions. I just figured its going to weigh 50 lbs, why not make it 55 and get the benefits of carrying more bullets...ya know? Thanks for all the info though-have seen some pages on plate carriers but not one with all of the criteria I posted. Also, P-07 i spy on your avi? |

RE extra mags: it's not necessarily the weight but where to put them. It makes for a very bulky setup. With either 8 or 10 mags, you have to double stack them on your chest. It makes it hard to go prone. The P-07 is also my carry gun, actually my only handgun at this point. It was a valentines day gift from my wife in 2011. I've got around 5,000 rounds through it. I use a crossbreed supertuck for IWB, Bianchi OWB that's actually made for a XD 9mm but fits like a glove, and had the below multicam kydex holster custom made. I'd really like a raven concealment phantom for kydex OWB. I've got a stainless steel guide rod to replace the plastic one and CZ night sights. http://i361.photobucket.com/albums/oo56/bradpierson26/IMG_3573_zps3d95421a.jpg http://i361.photobucket.com/albums/oo56/bradpierson26/IMG_8981.jpg http://i361.photobucket.com/albums/oo56/bradpierson26/IMG_7685.jpg http://i361.photobucket.com/albums/oo56/bradpierson26/IMG_1707.jpg That's sexy! How have the nightsights been working for you? I've only gone through about 500-1,000 rounds on mine because it's rather new to me. But I am running the crossbreed as well....I like it, but for some reason when I wear it for longer than an hour or so I get lower back pain. And about the mags-that was why I was wondering about perhaps a "bigger" rig....not so much to accommodate my size, but to have more real estate to spread out mags....I pretty much plan on this for shtf/wrol. In that case, I don't know how close I would be to more mags-so I was kind of planning on a heavier loadout-just in case. |

But I am running the crossbreed as well....I like it, but for some reason when I wear it for longer than an hour or so I get lower back pain. The night sights are great. I waited almost 9 months for CZ to have them in stock. With the crossbreed, i wear it more towards the 4:30 position. Also, a quality belt is key. Sometimes I wear it with a dress belt that isn't designed as a gun belt and that bitch hurts real quick. Having a lot of mags is fine, just don't double stack them on your chest. I have 3 on my chest, 2 on my belt, 1 in the gun (been contemplating a redi-mag on the gun as well), 1 on the exterior of the assault pack and a 6 mag bandoleer in the assault pack that I can will as much as I need. Worst case I can always throw mags in the assault pack too. So this gives me the opportunity to carry 7-13 mags but have them spread out. As a civie, it's not likely I will need to access that much ammunition at one point. I index mags off my belt and not my chest. I refill my belt with mags from my chest. |

Everyone was on the plate hangers then the weestach or woolstack whatevers then it was the PIG then the banshee now it's the TYR stuff. This too will pass and be replaced by something. |

I originally did a 7:30-but now I'm at 9:30....both are kinda ick after an hour or so. I have been using a load bearing type workbelt...I've been eying the crossbreed belt-but I didn't think it would make that big of a difference-you think it would take the pain away? When you use a dress belt where does it hurt you?
Thanks for the advice on the mags-I'm leaning pretty heavily towards the banshee-do I need to buy side plate carriers in addition? Or are they integrated in the Molle side panels? |

Yep-part of what draw me to the Cz-I can change the mag release=) Also have a couple Gen 4 Glocks for the same reason. Thanks for the Info on the Banshee! |

No worries. I was just messing around. I know how hard the PIG PC rocks! SOS It rocks so hard that I, for one, have it on my short-list of plate carriers if I ever have the budget for one. The add-ons that are available don't exactly hurt in this regard, either... |
