What is the difference between the Eagle A-III and the Eagle Crossover (I've seen it listed as A-III Crossover)? Their website doesn't give much details on either.

Crossover is 3325 ci, AIII is about 2624 ci.  Both look to have about the same shoulder straps and waistbelt.  Since neither waistbelt is load-bearing, carrying capacity is limited in both.  Both have PALS webbing attachment options.  Both hydration compatible.  Appears that crossover pack is optimized for laptop carriage.

Since no mention of a frame sheet or other reinforcement is made in regards the crossover, and since it is available only in ACU, I suggest the AIII, since it is available in a number of colors, and has an optional reinforced frame sheet, which you should not fail to get along with the pack.  the frame sheet will greatly enhance the load-carrying capability of the AIII, and comfort while carrying any load.

This just from looking at the pix and written specs, not from personal experience.  However, I'd be surprised if anyone who has used both packs would disagree with me much.

It would appear the Crossover has one big pocket ala the RAID whereas the Eagle AIII has two pockets plus a slip pocket on it.

But honestly I have wondered the same thing- never have heard much of anything about this pack...my guess is it was desined and manufactured fora  military contract of some sort.  natchzess.com has them for pretty cheap.

Yeah, I saw them at natchez and was thinking about trying one. I may still, I like just a big main compartment. I wonder if there is a way to add a frame sheet.

Get a piece of HDPE plastic sheet from Mcmaster Carr, cut to fit, slip in the hydration pocket- instant inexpenisve frame sheet. You can also buy some thin aluminum slats from McMasterm, drill holes in them and the HDPE, and mount with some pan head screws if you need more bolstering.

I have done it with a couple of packs that needed frame sheets of odd sizes, works fine.

I just did a bit more creative "Googling" and found that the Crossover is apparently made of a lighter weight material and it more of a "tactical bookbag" for use around base and such. I'm going to pass even though Natchez price is pretty cheap.

$39? That sounds like a pretty good deal for that Eagle Industries bag. And they come in black too. I hate ACU with a passion.

I just may have to pick one up for that price.
