So I bought an old woodland FLC and need to find someone who can see on a heavy duty zipper or just see up the chest flaps together.

Is any shop doing this these days? Or does anyone have an idea as to whee I could find a zipper?

Any of the normal gear shops off base will be able to handle it. I don't know of any in NoVa though.

Pretty much this. Should be able to do it right then and there.

This is Ft. Gordon, there are no surplus stores worth a damn.

Any one with an industrial sewing machine. Base tailor or parachute riggers?
Over on Lightfighter in the "Roll Your Own" section there is a way to get in touch with some really great stitch wizards. This would entail you sending it off though.

I'll try that, haven't ventured over to LF in a while

Have you tried checking some of the local dry cleaners that have on-site tailors, or Google some local tailoring shops/dressmakers, to see if they have heavy duty machines?  You're not getting complicated pouches or gear made, so any self-respecting stitch b!tch can sew a zipper or flap, provided she has the right equipment.  A lot of these tailors are old school and still use the old heavy duty sewing machines, since they don't seem to ever break down.  My brother-in-law used to be a tailor, and he still has his old cast iron sewing machines stored in his basement.  I can barely nudge the sewing machines and attached tables by myself.

Anyways, just a thought, before you have to send stuff out.  Good luck.

Try www.strapworks.com for zippers.  Go to www.retailmenot for arfcom discount code.

Some cobblers/shoe repair shops can do this work, just make SURE they use NYLON thread, so it won't rot.
