I was wondering if anyone had any experience/opinions on whether or not to use the TAG Banshee as a primary PC for operations in the AOR. I ask because, as awesome as the Banshee is, its main selling point for some is its low price. I have a Banshee and so far I like it a lot but I was wondering if anyone has put the Banshee through some severe deployment style abuse. It is comfortable and feels solid in its construction, but I do not want to be deployed only to have my PC break down.

My second option is the Mayflower APC. Again, I like it a lot and is does the job. There does seem to be a lot more info on the APC than the Banshee in use overseas and the APC is getting the thumbs up. The Banshee does have more MOLLE real estate which makes it more configurable, but I am using the Mayflower Gen IV UW chest rig on the APC.

I should add that I am an active duty EOD technician and that this PC would be following me to the AOR. We are meant to be getting the KHD Advanced Plate Carrier prior to departure, but that particualar PC is not getting rave reviews so I need a backup.

Any advice is appreicated.

The APC in conjunction with the chest rig is an outstanding set up.

ETA: The banshee is great also but if you can afford something 'better' I say, why not?

I haven't gotten a single negative review on the APC downrange. Everyone seems to love them. You should have no regrets using it.

This is the one you recommended in the "PC for big boobs" thread, right?

I have heard the same about the APC. Good reviews all round. I've been doing a wear test over the last couple of days; wandering around the EOD shop yesterday with the Banshee and today with the APC. So far the only concern I have is the UW rig. Absolutely love it as a shooters rig, but as an EOD tech I feel that the pouches are just a little too small for some of tools I like to keep at hand. I am using an ATS medical insert in one of the GP pouches and I can fit one Israeli bandage, two Quick Clots, a nose thingy and a chest needle into that pouch with the insert. Very tight fit, but it works.

As an EOD tech, you will be authorized to wear non-issued body armor? I thought you guys had to wear the IOTV unless approved for a plate carrier on a mission dependent basis.

Banshee v. APC- Never worn the banshee but I did use an APC dismounted for a while overseas. It's about as comfortable as it gets but will not take standard 8x8 side plates without rigging something youself. If you are close to the flag pole, forget about it...

Yes, the smaller sizes of the APC are the ones the women have been rockin' overseas.

Until very recently there was no set PC for USAF EOD. Units went ahead and purchased what thye saw fit for their troops. The unfortunate thing about this is that some units went the cheap route, and brought less than good gear. This resulted in EOD jumping on the KHD bandwagon. So, technically, no we cannot wear non issue PC's. But the APC will be in my load bag.

We are somewhat fortunate that we tend to operate with Army or Marines and not near the flagpole.
