ebay or the EE has them sometimes.

I used to have one. I ended up selling it. I did not like the clamshell opening and the transport tail is basically useless unless you're actually transporting a rifle. It gets in the way of opening the bag and it sucks to have to unbuckle and buckle them just to get something of size in and out of the bag. It was on the small size for me to have as a carry bag. You really can't fit all that much in it at all and I'm not a fan of having to buy other pouches and have them hanging off just to carry my stuff. I was more afraid of messing it up since I paid whatever it was (I think $210) for a backpack. Sold it for more than I paid for it since I got the MILLE discount so it was all good in the end.

I like mine.  The tail is awesome for carrying a rifle but does get in the way when not carrying one.  Its well built and stores a good amount of stuff inside of it.  I'd get another one if I had to.

I don't think there is a place other than TAD where you can get one new. If you watch the sale boards on the various forums, they seem to show up used pretty often.

You don't have to close every buckle. I carry mine by unbuckling the top two buckles and rolling the straps up and let them hang.
The transport tail can be removed. I use mine to stuff a jacket or other bulky item to the outside of the pack.
Another option is to have the zippers meet at the top. I pull one zipper to create an opening then rip the whole panel down with my hand. Or have the zippers meet just above either transport tail buckle where you can pull it up and around to the other side. That should be plenty of space for you to put stuff in or out.
