I am considering getting a plate carrier and am a little overwhelmed by all the options. I have two plate carriers that I have been looking at are the Shellback Tactical Banshee and the Eagle LE plate carrier with cummerbund. Which one of these is the better buy? Can anyone tell me more about them?

Here a few other questions I have:
Can each of these take hard plates with soft armor inserts to back up the plates?
Can they both take side plates?
What size plates are you supposed to run or are there even different sizes of plates?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for any help.

Hey, I have the Shellback Tactical Banshee plate carrier with maxpro ceramic stand alone 7.62 plates. Its awesome! I carry it in my patrol car for shtf situations. I would buy it again, great quality and it wears well. It sits high enough to wear with a duty belt and is comfortable with the plates. even at 18lbs. If there is one upgrade I will be making it will be the extra padded shoulder straps. they just slide on. I think they run an extra $15.
All the guys on my shift carry them in their cars. You can set it up any way you can think of, solid molle system holds whatever you want. Im running a tag tripple AR mag with stacker with pistol mags in front. also enough room to hold an admin pouch up front. I'll try to post some pics. The plate sizes are 10x12  and it will hold side plates, soft or hard plates.

Thanks for the response! Can it hold hard plates with soft plates for backing at the same time? And pictures would be awesome to!

Another concern I have is that the Banshee looks a little "small" from what I have seen in pictures of people wearing it. I have a longer torso so I am curious if the length of the banshee would be an issue. Is the Eagle longer than the banshee?

Yes it holds plates and backers. yes it will work for you even if you have a long torso.

The banshee is made for 10x12 (medium) plates.

Plate carriers are designed to carry plates. If it carries the plate, then it is doing what is designed to do. Plates aren't meant to cover you down to your groin, they are meant to protect your upper body and your major organs.

I run the PIG PC for duty use but have a banshee as a secondary.  I looked at the Eagle LE but I couldn't find it in stock anywhere and never got an answer when I called Eagle.

I have been looking around a little more and like the looks of the MARZ Tactical Carrier. Does anyone know anything about these?
