I've been looking around and it seems like the best option for me is the Condor Defender.  Is anyone running one of these and what do you think about them?

I have one and for the money it's a decent carrier. The quality of the Condor stuff has gone up in the last year or so. It's not a Weesatch or anything close to it but it works for non-military guys like me that have it for SHTF purposes. Mine is in coyote as well so it isn't the Crye material and it's held up fine in a couple of carbine courses. Nutnfancy did a pretty thorough review of it on his Youtube channel that influenced me to buy mine. I got it locally as well so I could check it out in person.

Is there a particular issue with the Crye material?  I've been looking at multicam and this is the material its made out of.

If it's Multicam it's made only by Crye, so at least you know you'll be getting good, American-made material. If it's another color, the nylon could be made by someone else in China as is the case of Condor. In other words, the Crye material is great. My coyote plate carrier is just fine, and has been plenty durable, but the Crye material is superior.

i have the condor quick release plate carrier in OD green and it has held up fine. im selling mine only because im upgrading to a higher end plate carrier. if not i wouldn't get rid of it. its a great carrier for probably half the price of what it should be going for.

Do you need BALCS armor inserts?

If you need to do wrap around armor and plates both in the same rig it's not bad. Complaint I have about Condor is that their webbing is too loose and as a consequence sometimes your pouches can sag especially over time if they're heavy.

Just buy an eagle plate carrier. If you're patient you can get on in the 150ish range on the EE new or close to it. If you need something BALCS cut, well then you may have to drop some more coin. But even then you could get a Eagle lo pro carrier and run a chest rig. There are a gazzilion good makers out there. Figure out what you need in terms of soft armor/hard armor coverage, scalability, and other features like molle real estate/quick release/compatiblity with other items/ etc and buy from a quality manufacturer. I like SKD and OPtactical but the EE is great too. The only thing condor has that I have even considered is the shotshell pouch, since that has a setup I havent seen elsewhere. Their quality can be passable, but when they charge 50-75% of what a brand name company would why take the risk.

Ares Aspis or TAG Banshee, either one arent that much more than the Condor and American made.
