I've made a thread before asking about differences but I wanted to get some further advice.

I recently stumbled on to OP Tactical and see they have a sale on their soft armor.

Is there any difference between the Dupont Kevlar Velocity Systems armor they are selling and that which TAG is selling?

Obviously with the sale, the Velocity kevlar is cheaper but I'm trying to determine if there's anything that would make the TAG soft armor a better choice.

I appreciate the help.

TAG –– $269 for Dupont front and back pair

OP Tactical –– Velocity Systems –– $238 for Dupont front and back pair

I updated the OP.

I was able to find some vague information between the Dyneema and the Dupont so I think I answered that question.

Now I am just looking to see if there's any difference between the Velocity soft armor on sale at OP Tactical and that which is for sale at TAG.

Because I see a lot of you guys get the Velocity armor from SKD for your PIG carriers, I assume the Velocity is GTG.

I don't know much about the TAG armor, but Velocity Systems is top rated.  I own nothing but Velocity Systems for all my soft armor.  I have toured their factory in Virginia, and everything is 100% made in the USA, and fully inspected before it ships.   The Kevlar is a great choice as it isn't susceptible to heat issues like Dyneema.   It is also less expensive, and only a little thicker.

Velocity Systems is top notch, and used by many in the special forces arena.  You can't go wrong with them.

Something else to consider when buying armor is expected/likely engagement range.
Some ballistic materials don't do as well as others at contact distances.

Awesome, thanks for that.  I assumed as much since the PIG seems quite popular and what most appear to buy is the Velocity Systems backers for it.

Even better is the price at OP.  I called them and they said it should be on sale for awhile so as soon as that EOTM deposit comes in, I am submitting the order.

But they couldn't tell me if the Mayflower cummerbund inserts they sell would fit in the TAG Banshee.  So, I'll need to do some heavy googling to see if I can find out about it.

That is what I found.  The Dyneema doesn't seem worth it.  The backers are already so light, I'm not worried about saving a few cm's and paying more for something that doesn't perform as well at contact shots.

Were you ever able to find any more info on whether these will fit?

ETA:
I am an idiot. I thought you meant the Mayflower cummberbund on a Banshee, yes that will work, but that is not what you wanted.
The Mayflower/Velocity Systems inserts for the APC will fit the Banshee, I just tried. That being said, the Mayflower Inserts are 6 1/2 inches shorter than the one that Tag sells for the Banshee Cumberbund. They are exactly the same height.
My worry would be the Mayflower Soft Armor would float around in the Banshee Cummberbund.

You guys are draining my bank account.   Got the plate backers from OPT this week.  They seem well made, and fit my (very Cool) Condor Plate Carrier.  When I go back to Afghanistan, I'll see how well the whole shebang mates up with the ESAPI plates that I'll pick up over there.  Stupid ITAR regulations say that I can take soft armor over AND BACK but if I take hard armor over, I'll have to leave it there.  Bastards.

Are you sure about that? Bringing US ML stuff in is rarely a problem, but taking something that may incorporate sensitive or controlled techlike hard plates could definitely be something you'd need an export permit for. I believe soft armor is on the USML as well, but without knowing your specific situation and doing a bit of research not 100% about the temporary exportation of either and what that requires as far as approval/licensing as ITAR is a proverbial maze of onerous, bizarre, and often arbitrary regulations.

ITAR is a can of worms but yes, so far, soft armor or plate backers...Good, Hard plates...Bad.  There are provisions for hand carrying hard plates to and from OCONUS but I am not prepared to do so.

Could you tell me what the dimensions are on the Mayflower and Banshee cummerbund soft armor inserts?  I am trying to fugure out what will fit in my PIG cummerbund besides the PIG specific inserts.  I am looking for something that is about 11-12" long and 6" high.  The Mayflower and Banshee inserts are the same height, is that 6".   The Banshee inserts look to be about 15" long give or take a couple inches, which would be too long for the PIG.   Can you tell me what size Mayflower insert you have and how long it is?  Thanks.

No worries. They are as follows:

Banshee Cummberbund Insert:  5 3/4 X 15

Mayflower Cummberbund Insert: 5 X 9

I hope this helps.

Our Velocity  inserts are available in four sizes, 5x7, 5x9, 5x11 and 5 x 14,

Dyneema or Kevlar run the same sizes.

Hope this helps.
