I'm taking 6 days of carbine classes in about 9 months and figure with each of us throwing 3K rounds down range I may want to wear a little insurance.

I'm 6'1", 235lbs some of which I hope to loose before this class comes along. I don't know what to expect for cost but I would like to keep it down so a $500 plate carrier then $?? for plates won't happen.

What are you suggestions for Plate Carrier and Plates. I'll probably throw a few tacos on it and call it a day.

Take a look at this and add the back piece.  It's a great piece.

If all you're lacking is the armour and you have 9 months to get it, perhaps this is a good oppurtunity to buy once/cry once and get something you can use again and again instead of going cheap now and having to upgrade later.

+1.

this is what it will look like.
ETA: i think this would be a good choice especially for you for your size, even being a smaller guy myself i find alot of plate carriers a little bit constricting in the shoulder/neck area. the RRV+back plate is an extremely comfortable choice. if you go this route, buy some stand alone plates.
