There seems to be a LOT of talk about PC around here but not too much on helmets to stop bullets.

I've been looking to get one for a few months now.  Botach has the least expensive price on the MICH/ACH but they only have one size XL and I need a large.

Anyone have one?  Where did you get it from?

Thanks

I don't have a personal ballistic helmet, but Bullet Proof Me are a great group of people with some great customer service. If you call them they'll help you out with whatever you need.

Thanks for the links.  Botach was $199.  But if I can't find what I need with them maybe I'll pony up the extra bill and get it from the other places.

Thanks

Easy to find a used/like-new ACH in the EE in the Mil-Spec Clothing and Gear Forum.

However, remember, the ACH is not actually bulletproof. It's IIIa, so it's more designed to stop shrapnel and to a much lesser extent pistol calibers.

Rifle cal. Lvl III vs Pistol cal. Lvl IIIA

Are you asking if there are any Lvl III helmets? I believe PASGTs are Lvl II, and MICH/ACH are Lvl IIIA. I've never heard of any Lvl III rated helmets. They just can't be made thick enough or durable enough to be made into helmets.

Hmm...didn't know that.  Again I was under the assumption that they could stop rifle rounds for some reason.  My mistake on that one.  I'd still like some skull protection though.  I've been told helmets other than the PASGT fit decently and are more comfortable plus they get rid of the brim.

The new ACH replacement (ECH I believe) will stop rifle rounds. Ceradyne is still working out the bugs...    Look on the bay to - some good deals pop up.

They do on used ones.

Rifle round...really?  I'm not a fan of buying anything new in regard to technology.  After a few years to make sure it works sure.  Thanks for sharing that though, had no clue.

If you need head protection, it's better than nothing. But you shouldn't buy a helmet thinking it can take a couple of rounds of 30.06 AP like an ESAPI plate.

Hell I didn't even think an ESAPI would stop 30.06 AP!  Just .308.  And someone using such a caliber could easily make a head-shot depending on skill and distance.

I see them used for $125-ish.  I figure I'll give one a whirl and spray it matte black.

I see you saw Free's ad in the EE. Great deal, if I had the cash and didn't already have a 2001 I would have already grabbed it up.

There are two or three at that price...but yeah his is the one I want and I PM'd him on it.

2001...year made?  Any difference tween yours and the one I'm looking at?

I asked him about wear and brand because I couldn't tell from the blurred tag.

2001 is a style of cut (High-Cut). Standard ACH is a 2000 cut.

Oh ok so the cut outs by the ears.  Does this effect prone shooting at all?  They all look like they come down about the same nape-wise.

Thanks
