I sure this is the wrong place for this specific question...
I checked the outdoors forum and they had a HAM Radio section, but since there was no specific match, I thought there were/are more .mil guys here who can help me out. Here Goes: My unit just got SKL's. We can't seem to load the MBITR in FH mode, only SC mode. Can somebody please PM/ email me with step by step instructions? Our S-6, as usual has no clue. We are operating on SC while dismounted, and in FH in the vehicles. Our manpack ASIPS are also running in FH mode, but not being able to contact the MBITRs not only dangerous but a pain. Thanks! This could really help my unit out. |

There was a recent thread in the ham forum regarding the MBITR and a couple of guys with mil experience with them posted in it IIRC. I'll see if I can find it.
Hmmm... still looking. Found one: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_10/317098_Deleted_.html You might well have a better chance to get info if you were able to post in the restricted access military forum here. Could also do something as simple as call the manufacturer of the radio. Maybe flag down the nearest "Tier 1"ish looking dudes and ask for help? Here was the recent ham forum thread. Couple of MBITR users in there. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_10_22/649687_MBITR_Radios.html |

You need to put in the loadset, not just the key, for it to work in FH. Radios in SC will not be able to communicate with ones in FH and vice-versa. This is not an issue with the MBiTR, but an issue with not knowing the SKL. Your COMSEC guys should be able to tell you how to use the SKL. You can also do a search on AKO for a users guide to the SKL and MBiTR. In lieu of that try your Brigade S6 or Division G6 and ask nicely for at least a cheat sheet, or ask if you can stop by for a quick class. Also, if your getting the shrug and brush-off from your S6, let with your leadership know they are failing to support you. That's what they are supposed to be there for. |

Agreed, we do not know the SKL at all - cool new gadget basically just handed to use..... I do miss the Kyk13.
Thread links helped, thanks for all the effort. Turns out BDE didn't give us a proper fill and that was the issue all along. My company really appreciates the help though. definately need to get some guys at our level into a class when possible. |
| SKL's were new we got some right before I got out. I always used the ANCD to load ASIPS and the MBITR's because that is what I was used to. If you are more familiar with the ANCD too - maybe try getting a ANCD from your S6 load the fill in MBITR (then set your time if it is not already). In the future if it happens again maybe the issue is with your COMSEC fill try using your SKL to load a man pack (ASIPS, etc..) or other radio see if you can get in the net on FH-CT if not then you probably know its your fill, take the fill device to your S6 have them zeroize and re-fill it. |
