I have been carrying a Surefire G2, non LED, since I bought it at the Ft.Hood clothing and sales just before I went to Iraq in 2005.  Now it's been on duty with me as a police officer.  Today it stopped working on me.  Put in a fresh set of batteries and still a no go.

Think it's worth it to try a new/upgraded LED head or just find something new?  What other options out there are quality heads besides a surefire LED upgrade?

Holy crap 340 lumens!?  I think that may just be face melting!!  LOL.  Shows out of stock though

Lifetime warranty.

I would still get a LED since you will have more lumens and greater battery life.

probably just needs a bulb. Call BrightFlashlights and he'll set you up with a Lumens Factory LED drop in that is 3 times as bright as the SF LED.

Yeah I went to their site though and a bulb burning out or tail cap wearing out isn't covered.  Unless I misunderstand what I read.

Well that sucks. It wouldn't hurt to give them a call and ask though. I know they won't cover tape switches.

Malkoff Devices for the drop-in.
If you want a clicky tailcap, then look at a McClicky upgrade.
ETA:  OP, how bright do you want the light to be?  I would not go above the M60L, or the M61L, with a G2.

There is no way that I would run a 340 lumen drop-in inside the Nitrolon body of a G2. It's not going to be able to handle the heat!

The aluminum body of a C2/C3 or 6P/9P would be fine, but not the G2...

OP, I have a spare P60 bulb assembly I pulled out of my 951 to upgrade it to LED. If you want the P60 assembly it's yours, just PM me your address.

i went to a building clearing class a few years ago and my incandescent surefires looked sad compared to more modern leds. the malkoff is good as are the surefires. i'm surprised you never popped the incandescent bulb before.

All of my G2's have the 240 lumen upgrades.

I can light up the woodline 200yds away.

The 340 are new and got hands on with them from a buddy. HOLY BALLS.. Bright is an understatement from the G2..

Add a diffuser, OMFG!

I never keep mine on for more than 5 minutes at a time, so heat has never been a problem..

Solarforce is a good Chinese light.  I have played Solarforce lego with many lights.  I still use USA products in my SHTF items, but I do like them.

I would get it from sbflashlights.com, because they have $0.01 shipping to the lower 48 states.

Oh, it is also $19.99 at sbflashlights.com to boot.

I really like these new Surefires.  Check out the G2X Pro at LA Policegear.  This light gives you dual LED output which mirrors the much more expensive E2D LED.  I use it regularly to walk the dog at night and would say the low output throws more light than I expected and the high output completely lights up the backyard.

I think it depends on who you talk to. I had the tailcap to an Aviator go out on me and called them up. I had a new tailcap in two days. Wouldn't hurt to call.

Yeah, definitely give SF a call.

I had the clickie Z59 tailcap on my 6P Defender start making all kinds of weird crunching noises just minutes after I pulled it out of the package. A quick call to SF, and a new tailcap was on the way. I even offered to return the problem tailcap, but they said just to keep it.

A few days later I read on CPF that a few drops of light oil on the inner spring would solve this problem. Now I have two perfect-working Z59's...

SF just replaced a broken tailcap (button wouldn't click) off my 951 under warranty. I agree, definitey won't hurt to call.

+1 I just picked up a pair of these and they are great everyday lights. The low setting is perfect for most things, and the high is great when you need it.

I have two and they are awesome. As a weapon light the dual output tailcap can be tricky to use though. I'm still working with one but I will probably use them as hand helds only.

Those 130 lumen (C4 LED equipped) Streamlight PolyTac lights are another good option considering that they can be had for under $40 on the interwebs...

I use a Streamlight Strion LED for patrol. I love it. Crazy bright, compact, rechargeable, never had the batteries die on shift. A lot of guys I work with use them as a weapon light on their personal ARs as well. I highly recommend it.

Yeah I actually have a Streamlight poly tac on my AR.  It is a nice, bright light.  It's pretty cheap on DSG with my LE discount also.  I may just pick up one of those to use for awhile.
