Does anyone have recommendations for good but reasonably priced and durable athletic boot socks?

I have not found a reasonably priced, really good sock.  I like Smartwool.  You can catch them on sale for $10-15/pr.

This is about as Good a price on these as you're going to get.

I'm just a civilian, but I wear the socks almost daily. They are outstanding, especially considering the quality you get for the price. They may be more expensive than those shitty cotton socks that walmart sells, but these socks are leagues better than them.

I picked up a couple pairs of the Bass Pro Shop 'lifetime guaranty' merino wool socks (~+80% wool) that I liked so much I even bought another 3 prs..  they are $10/pr but if they wear out you can take them back (with your receipt) for a free replacement pair..

These socks (since they are higher wool percentage) are much warmer than any of the other 'wool blend' socks I have owned..

When in Iraq my boots hurt cause of the sweat, an Army infantryman said they wear ankle white sport socks like with tennis shoes.  After a while getting used to it I never had any problems with sweat and discomfort after that.

With my .mil uniform I wear the 2-pack of Wigwam comfort hikers (merino wool ) from Dicks.  I've worn out a few pairs over the past few years, but I wear these things daily and I tend to wear out the heels in my boots quicker than the socks.

Very comfortable socks, and if you have a Dick's nearby you can check them out in person.

"Darn Tough"
They are not cheap, but they come with a life time no-questions asked warranty.

Wear them out, even just one hole and they'll replace them free of charge.

This. I bought like 6 pair when I went to Iraq. The most comfortable socks I've ever owned.

I love my 5.11 boot socks. For warmer weather, they are great alone. Cooler weather, I throw on a pair of REI Merino wool, or some no-name insulated socks. Works very well for breathability and warmth.

I just discovered Dahlgren Alpaca wool socks a few weeks ago, and now prefer them to all others.  Their site is hard to navigate, but they're comfortable, don't smell, haven't rubbed me the wrong way, etc.  Good stuff all around.

I see a lot of recommendations for Merino wool-based socks. Are Smart Wool branded socks a good bet?
