All, I was wondering what you all think of this chest harness.  This one  .  I need one if I am going to start taking carbine courses, and for SHTF.  I only want to buy one, so the cost isn't a big issue.  Let me know what you guys think.

it does the job WELL

but I will tell you that a LOT of folks especially those without an inkling as to what good design and gear is all about will be put off about the $$ value vs. weight

it is a very good minimalist design that does its intended role well

That is what I figured. It is expensive, BUT it appears to be made well, and it is light weight.  I know all too well what a ton of extra crap will do after 8 hours of dragging it around.  It really takes the fun out of things

I do hear about it being an outdated design and concept every time it's mentioned here.  I'm not sure what that means, though.

how is it an outdated design?

WCS can you point me to where thats stated? I'd like to know what that basis was.

I like how folks have bought into this rig thinking XXX and finding out that its not the hold everything and the bucket rig, and state out how it SUCKS blah blah, while not taking into account a lack of pre-prep research to mitigate this.

if a rig doesnt fit a particular user need, its not a failure of the rigs design but rather I submit it as a failure on the buyers part to FULLY investigate all options out on the market

really?  outside of military and LE circles, HOW MANY people here are going to need MORE that 4 x M4 magazines on the ready?

OP - what led you to this particular choice option

Sorry Eggrolly.  I searched through the 15 pages, but I can only see back two months.

I recall complaints about mag load, split front and no stacked mag pouches maybe?  Also, too much of the load is under the arms.

Defenders mentioned the ability to stack your own Mag, GP and Med pouches.  Easy Don/Doff.

FWIW, I use a split front Bush Boar 8 Mag and run my mission gear stacked.  And, I don't have a mission.

I Liked the split front design because it seemed easier to don.  I also liked the fact it looks light weight.  I can carry 2 M4 mags on my carbine, and then 4 in the vest, that means I can take a total of 180 rounds on me.  I can't dispatch the problem with 180 rounds I think my best bet would be to find cover and start praying.

The guys complaining about the design are also the same ones running 12+ mags. It's a minimalist design, and does that job quite well. Need more mags, and stacked? Pick something else. Need something lightweight, easy/quick to get on, holds just whats needed for many applications most of LE and civilians are involved in, look into it.

The whole idea of holding 12+ mags is making my back hurt!  I think it would be a bigger advantage to be able to move fast.  Besides You can always carry a backpack too.

After changing my setups over time through training experience, I think that is almost my ideal rig.  If they would make it with just the PALS webbing so I could change out what type of pouches I want

to use I would own one.  Modular is the way to go imho, in fact I emailed them suggesting it and they said they might come out with a modular version in the future.  That was nearly a year ago

and I haven't seen a new design yet.  I would be surprised if they didn't come out with a modular version however, too many people dodn't like being stuck with one type of pouch sewn on.

Same rig but modular here.

Not the same rig....

A look into the history of the BCM one would show the differences. That's like saying a MAV 2 is the same, but modular.

Hey OP, go to the "Industry" section and scroll down to the Bravo Company page.  There are multiple pages regarding this rig. Very interesting and informative.  I wanted one and ended up just getting a surplus Fighting Load Carrier that I tailored to my needs. I love BCM and have dropped a good chunk of cash there and have been very satisfied with their products and service. - FarmGunM1

Does that hydro pouch have a loop to hang the blader or does it just sit in the pouch?

Definitely a serviceable piece of gear. Simple. Easily adjustable. I have thought about a vest type configuration for years, just never bit the bullet. This type of set up would work well for those that are just trying to get into training, 3 gun, and the like. The included removable hydro is a nice touch, and as far as I have seen, exclusive. If you need 4 mags, hydro, and a little PALS, why not? If Jeff designed it and Paul brought it to market, you know it's good. It may not fit everyone's needs, but none of all of this nylon goodness we're surrounded by does. If it works for you in theory, buy it. If not, move on. But I see no reason at all to downplay it as expensive, outdated, etc.
