Has anyone seen these, or better yet does anyone have one and may like to elaborate on it.

To the best of my knowledge, Helicon makes stuff for the Polish military. They were one of the first to adopt multicam for military use. I don't think they licensed it from Crye so they call it Camogrom and it has slightly different tones. I have a Polish friend who has some of this gear and he has been very pleased. I am hoping to acquire that exact soft shell coat and some other things from Helicon once Santa gets here next month.
Feel free to correct my info on Helicon if it is not accurate. |
| I wonder if these are acually made in Poland? The fit on these looks kind of "frumpy", but I think they have made it look that way by pulling the draawstrings, and the collar looks bulky. I was looking for a softshell similar to the Condor one everyone is talking about. I think the material is about the same as the Condor or my North Face Apex, but the fit looks different. |

Best I can tell Helikon-Tex is German, but I don't see anywhere that they indicate where they are manufactured. They also have a "commander" soft shell that looks nice. I'm very tempted to order one, it's no more than a Condor, comes in multicam (sorta), pretty much the worst that can happen is you find out they are also made in China. The Helikon website does say they are made to US military specification(not that that means anything). |

Here is another website selling Helikon stuff with more info.
Helikon soft shell |
| I am a distributor for Defcon5 (Italy) and they carry Helikon gear. The company is Polish, and their gear is made in Poland, Pakistan, and China, depending on what the item is. So far, I haven't had anyone interested in the Helikon gear, but the samples that I do have are on par with other entry level gear. Meaning their uniforms are not bad, but quality is aimed at the re-enactor/airsoft market. It's funny, but the gear that is made in China is actually the best made of their gear. They also make a knock-off of EGA MARPAT, but it's not nearly the quality of the real deal. |

Probably at the Condor? |

Or they could look here: http://www.bdu.com/F740397366.html (black, alpha green and coyote are all $149, which is a real bargin if you were going to pay $90 for poorly-made junk) Or here: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/search/SearchResults.aspx?allwords=soft%20shell&searchdescriptions=True there are some awesome bargins there. |

The sleeves on the Propper measure very short if the specs are right @ 24 3/8" on an XXL. You would have to look like a T-Rex for that to fit, maybe thats why they are close outs. |

patagonia has their slingshot jacket ( MARS mil line) on sale for $95. big sizes left and made in usa. I have one of those. Nice, but not waterproof/repellent at all. It's also very thin, so it's not going to keep you warm. I'm returning mine so I can spend the $90 on a more propper soft shell. |

So people looking for a soft shell but don't want to spend $300 should look elsewhere? Probably at the Condor? I have to say that the Condor softshell, for it's price, is a really nice jacket. MFH (Max Fuchs) in Germany also makes an inexpensive softshell that is good for the price: http://www.asmc.de/en/Clothing/Cold-weather-jackets/US-Softshell-Jacket-MFH-olive-p.html (by the way, the ASMC catalog is the size of a phone book.) I haven't found it available here, so shipping the the EUR to USD conversion it's more than the Condor however. I picked one up on my last trip to Europe when I was checking on my snow camo orders for this year (which ironically is made in China but sold in Europe.) |
