I'm thinking of getitng some electronic muffs. I love the Sordins, I have a pair at work but it has an integrated radio. I'd love to buy my own, but I can't do $250 for ear pro.
The only other ones I know of are the Peltors. Are these any good considering the difference in price? Any recommended model? I like over the head, but haven't decided if I should go with them or the behind the neck model. They'd work with my Eclipse ARCH-Warrior II helmet, but I would think there would be issues with my MICH. |

Yeah, no comms. My radio and Eclipse helmet are for a non-tactical purpose. I'm a guardsman, hence the MICH. I'll look into the Peltors. I really like the MSAs, but the there's almost a $200 price difference between the 2, hence my hesitation. yep, i dont own a pair of the 6s but i tried my buddy's, theyre awesome. i want to pick up a set but ive also been trying to save up money for a pair or comm equipped muffs. |

Save a little more money and get the Tac Sports over the Tac 6S if you go the Peltor route we have seen hundreds if not thousands of pairs of Peltors come through our classes. The Tac Sports have better electronics, better battery life, more durable, and have auto off.

I talked to a guy who carries some weight in the firearms world. (I'd rather not use his name without his permission in criticism of a company.)
He says he really likes the Peltors but the customer service sucks. Said he sent back a pair, they wouldn't fix them and wouldn't sen em back. I'm looking at the MSAs with the audio input and drooling, but I still can't justify them. |

I have Peltor Tactical Sport cans.
They have the connector for external audio and I have that cable coming in the mail so I can listen to the ipod while I'm blasting zombies
One caveat of that model is that the cans are relatively small. This is good in that they're light weight and comfortable to wear all day. They do a fine job of blocking noise but know that the $10 remington cans they sell at walmart actually do better noise reduction by virtue of being larger. If you have particularly large ears they might not fit inside the cans comfortably. That said, I still really like them. They're great outside and I've used them for several tac courses. They're comfortable to wear over a ball cap and shooting glasses. The clamping is extremely fast for both open and close (you don't hear the gunshot but you'll hear the echo if it's quiet enough). Outside, they're great for talking to the person next to you. At an indoor range with lots of people firing, every shot is going to make it clamp so it's hard to carry on a conversation - in those situations i actually find that it's easier to turn it off and just get used to hearing the person yell vs the loud-quiet switching when other people are firing. |

I have owned the Peltor Tac 6s, the MSA/Sordin Supreme Pro, the Peltor Comtac, and the Pro Ears electronic muffs.
All will afford fine hearing protection. The difference is in the price and ruggedness of the unit you are buying. I know cost is an issue, but, the Sordins or Comtacs will last way, way longer than the Tac 6s. My brother is a cheap bastard (he can afford Comtac's or Sordin's, but refuses to buy them) and is on his 2nd or 3rd set of Tac 6s muffs. Eventually, he will have paid for Comtacs or Sordins in repeated purchases of the Tac 6s, yet, I am still on my first set of Sordins (and I use them hard). Since you are a Guardsman, save-up and get either the Peltor Comtac (the original or Comtac II) or the MSA/Sordin Supremes. They will stand up to the abuse that everyday military use will incur. The Tac 6s is fine if you are just going down to the range for recreational shooting, but, they don't hold up well under hard use/environments. YMMV, blah, blah, blah... Buy quality, pay once. |

This is why I like the performance of my Pro Ears. I hate that it takes 4 N batteries and doesn't have an auto-off, but love actually using them. |
