I'm in the market for a new EDC Backpack. My Oakley pack has seen better days. I was never to overly fond of it, but the price was right - FREE - so I carried it just about everyday for the past 4 years. It's held up well...until recently...so I can't complain about that. My main complaint with it is that it's a large shaped pack, yet it didn't offer that much practical cubic inch space. It's like a large poorly designed house with lots of wasted space. I'm looking for something similar. I don't need a large obtrusive pack. Just something big enough to carry a lunch sack, books, lap top, duty gear, and other miscellaneous things. A LEO discount would be nice as well. Here are a few that I thought of off the top of my head: 1. http://www.tacticaltailor.com/modularoperatorpack.aspx 2. http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/PYGMY-FALCON-II-Backpack-12p145.htm 3. 5.11 Rush 24 Any other suggestions? Personal experiences? |

There's quite a size disparity between those three packs.
The TT is 2600cc The 5.11 is 2000cc The Maxpedition is 1400cc The ATS Raid II is probably about as big as the Tactical Tailor. Camelbak makes a wide variety of good to go packs. |
| If you are going the route of Maxpedition, go with a Condor (the most comfortable backpack I personally have worn) if you are wanting a back pack with two shoulder straps. In my experience, the pygmy falcon is too small to carry anything. Another route would be the single strap Gearslingers. I have a Sitka and can fit a 15" laptop in it, a change of clothes and all the other odds and ends you would see in an EDC. Depending on how much gear you have, the size up would be the Kodiak, same design, just more room. I love my Sitka, even when loaded, I can wear it all day and barely notice it is there. |

I have a Camelbak Hawg NV. It's really comfortable, but storage in the pack is pretty small when the bladder's full. I wear it to NYC when I go for work, but after the essentials (camera, laser, water, tape measure) I'm running out of room for job-specific stuff like drawings and paperwork. My advice if you get a hydration pack is to check it with a full bladder so you can see how much room isn't left.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm going to stay away from the Camelbacks as I don't have a need for a bladder and I'm not going to be wearing this pack all day. I've got a couple nice day packs and backpacking packs which I use for their indented purposes. |

I've narrowed it down between the following two packs. The TAD and TT packs are nice, but just too much out of my price range for a little day use pack. 1. Maxpedition Condor II OR 2. 5.11's Rush 24 Backpack What say the masses? |

I have the next bigger Rush pack. An lot of thought went into the design of the various pockets. If you need a bag for every day use with lots of organization, it's about the best pack out there, particularly if you take into account price. It would not be my choice for a pack you are going to be using for hiking day after day, but as bag for someone like a cop to store gear in and keep it in order it's a great deal and I also have a bunch of kifaru packs, a Tad Gear EDC, several Maxpedition Packs, a bunch of Camelbaks, had an Eagle A3 etc etc |
| I have a Condor II also. I use it for my hiking bag. It will definitely hold everything you want to put into it. I sits nice and high up on my back and has plenty of straps to help keep it in place (sternum strap and waist strap), but those can be removed if they get in your way, one of the features that I love about the pack. The bottom of the main compartment (on the outside) is rubberized to help minimize wear and tear, it is hydration bladder ready, and just all around well built. The only negative I can even think of is that the weight of the material from the two external pouches causes the bag to collapse in a little. Not a problem while wearing it (everything remains fairly in place and comfortable), but if the pack is not full or loaded right, might be a minor annoyance (but not enough for me to give it a bad review). Hope it helps. |
