Hi! I'm looking for a small light chest rig for my AR. It doesn't need to have secondary holsters or mag pouches, but I would be ok if it did.It does need to have 4- 8 primary pouches. I am flexible, since this will be used in conjunction with a belt rig. I am on a tight budget though, I won't be using this in theatre or anything so it doesn't need to be super awesome heavy duty, and that will probably only have detrimental effects in the weight areas. I don't like alot of nylon around my chest as it makes me sweat buckets. I hope you guys who know so much more than me can suggest something that might work for me! Thanks ahead of time!

I've got the .308 version of this:

"Only" four magazines, but hey, you can add more if you feel like it.

I used this. It's pretty inexpensive, very well made, and made in USA. 6 mag pouches, and it's lined with a non slip material so the mags don't come out when you run.

I am liking the TT micro rig, where would be a good place to buy mag pouches, and how many fit across the front,3? Thanks!

would you not sweat buckets if you had to be in a 2 way range?

you dont want to sweat buckets?  news flash bud, its going sweaty, there is NO WAY around that
and it will get even worse if you have someone shooting at you or you need to beat feet

and the more magazines you carry will only add to this

Noone shoots at me? I thought I mentioned this? I meant that I don't want an armor carrier-type vest because I don't need the weight. I don't think we are on the same thought are we?
ETA: If my main concern was sweat when someone was shooting at me, I deserve to die. Also if you have more mags you can fight back more effectively.

Did I say anything about YOU mentioning an armor carrier?  a chest rig will work constrict your breathing under stress...even if it seems to fit looking in the mirror, along with getting you warm whereever you decide to ride it, and 4-8 primary magazines?  Really do you need that many?  What are you setting out to accomplish

Why do you want this chest rig if not to carry rifle magazines in a civilian defensive posture

Mall-ninja fantasies? Actually my purpose is for three-gun compititions, and doing the sheriffs qualifications just for fun. Again I'm not a deputy or anything, I guess I just want this rig because I can?

Concern about weight is a PT issue. PT more, and you won't be concerned about humping the weight.

I agree with this.

In addition, if I need 8 magazines on my person in the civilian world for the fight I'm expecting, not only do I want armor, but I'm also going to want to bring some friends along, cause the shit is about to hit the fan.

An excellent choice for features vs $$ value   and I make my own gear too.

That being said, no where did the OP say he wanted this for three gun competition.  Maybe I missed *that* part where a stage would require 8 x M4 magazines, but I have never heard of gaming stage requiring that much ammo.

Again  going back to my BE REAL comment of the THINK ! thread.   How many competitions have you gone to, and of those, how much did you need for the rifle stage?

If you want this for acting out your inner - Paul Blart, more power to ya, just dont forget the duct taping of armor plates to ya too.

If you're not dead set on it being a chest rig, you could pick up a surplus FLC. There is a stickied thread tacked up on the board here that has more pics of them and their configurations than you could get through in an hour.

I have one, I got it off ebay for $18 to my doorstep, it is in woodland, with just the buckles, no zipper. What do I use it for? Hunting. So far, it has carried my gear into the woods for the purpose of getting hogs. This is different from HSLD hadji-killer rigs, I run three mag pouches on it, two 100rd saw pouches, a pistol mag pouch, and a med pouch. I only populate one of the three double AR mag pouches with loaded 30s, the others i use to put a radio, water bottle, small binos, GPS, or whatever into. a small pack or someone else with extra room can carry more shit, too.

tactical gear can be used for lots of things, just be real about what you need with yourself. as much as I would LOVE for it to be the case that I can realistically expect to need every last round from 6 loaded 30s plus one in the gun for a day of hog hunting, thats just not the case and my energy and space is better spent bringing my lunch and LOTS of extra fluids. its already 95F+ and ditto humidity and yeah, putting so much as a maple leaf on, let alone thick pants, boots and a piece of load bearing equipment is already a guarantee of sweating buckets.

if i really ever need to, ive got the mag pouches there and I can load up for something a little more explicit, but for the time being i dont. people are giving you the answers to the questions you asked as they were written here, theres no way for anyone to draw conclusions about your life from things you dont say. its cool to gear yourself out, and just cause you do it doesnt mean your some kind of closet wannabe, just bring the right tools for your job, not someone else's. state your needs, and the right direction you will be pointed in. hope im making sense here.

Both of the sites I linked sell quality mag pouches.  I'm going to guess that the micro rig can hold three mag pouches across the front.  You mentioned using a belt; have you considered adding suspenders and a few rifle mag pouches to the belt?

I use my Eagle/SKD chest rig when I take the kids to the Zoo.  It hold water bottles perfectly, and they ultimately make me carry them around.  Binoculars in a GP pouch, and a bump and scrape med kit with kiddy bandaids and stuff.  Snacks in the pistol pouches.

In Fact!  Someone should make a chest rig with thermal pouches just for this!

I'm sorry if I offended anyone, I am just looking for a chest rig. I don't need one, I'm not an operator, I want this rig for many reasons, one of witch is a companion to my trunk rifle and kit. Another might be when hog hunting where I might pnly carry two extra mags or even one, but I could carry survial gear and knives.  I didn't say I needed 8 loaded mags or even say I wanted them. If the rig had more than 3-maybe 4, I would remove or repurpose them to add pouches for a light and snacks or shtf gear.  I said that to show that I am flexible to what ever is available. I have no idea what or were to look, so I thought I would inquire those who know so much more than me. I get an answer that I'm doing it wrong, maybe so, but at least I am doing it my way instead of how some people on an internet forum tell me I should. I might be wrong, and I will suffer, but at least I am trying to learn. Sorry. I guess I was wrong?

Specter Gear M1 Mk3 with 3x2 AR mag pouch and two double pistol mag pouches...Optics Planet has the best prices on Specter Gear ..... Sometimes they are back ordered, but usually never more than a week or two....  Posted these to give you some ideas, you can get the base chest rig and reconfigure as needed.

I have gotten really good service out of this vest it holds 4 AR mags and you can shove two in each pouch if you want.  It has two pistol mag pouches, but I use one to hold a mini cleaning kit and one holds a multi tool.  I have worn it through scores of three gun matches and training sessions.  I've tried other things and came back.  Eagle makes one almost identical.

With the option of layering another one of these on top of the existing pouches.  Plus the bonus that if you have or should ever have an AK the pouches are AK friendly.
