Had an extra side (6x8) ESAPI plate so i figured i see what it could take. This is a 'in conjunction' plate so i put some level IIIa kevlar behind it. All shots were from 50m. One round of m193 cratered the plate but did no penetrate, 2 rounds of m855 make small holes in the face of the plate but did not exit the rear. A final round of 7.62 nato shattered the plate but bounced off. None of the rounds made it to the kevlar hehind. Since the plate was completely shattered after the 4th shot i stopped there. Sorry no pics.

He said it was completely shattered. The plates are only made to take 3-4 rounds... It did its job.

some people just dont believe the kevlar is mostly for spall and as a base layer of protection.

thanks for sharing

when i say shattered i mean destroyed, the fabrick cover flew off, the plate broke into about 10 pieces that flew all over the place. The kevlar liner behind it had no penetration or damage so i know the last round bounced off. Shot a bunch of holes in the kevlar with 556 afterwards.

Last time I looked, rifle rounds go through Kevlar like a hot knife through warm butter.   Kevlar can only stop a rifle round that has impacted a SAPI plate first.    My guess is that if he would have shot one more time the rounds would have gone right though the kevlar unless it hit a large fragment of SAPI first.

OP,

Good on you for testing something and making a post.  I learned from it.

To everyone else who had to bitch on the post - go get your freaki'in camera and piece of SAPI and start posting.
