I wear an American Ballistic Armor vest for work. Someone told me that it must be replaced every 2 years. Is this true?

Most soft body armor is warrantied for 5 years.

I tried looking on ABA's website, but their warranty info page wouldn't load. They are now a part of Safariland.

All body armor I have seen is warranteed for 5 years....but they last MUCH MUCH longer than that.  They only have an exp. date so the company isnt liable after that, as they dont know what u have done with it, or how its been cared for.

If you care for your body armor properly, it will last a long time.  You need to store the vest flat in a climate controlled location.   Don't ever store your vest in your car or trunk since it gets way too hot.  Also, water is terrible for kevlar.  Don't get your vest wet, or submerge it in water.   If you vest has any creases or folds in it, don't wear it as that causes weak spots to form.

There have been numerous tests done on body armor panels that were over 20 years old and they still stopped all threats as long as they were cared for properly.

If you are in law enforcement, get a new vest every five years.  When the warranty wears out, replace it.  If it is your personal vest, then it is up to you to make sure it is cared for well and will serve you for a long time.
