The world of tactical gear is huge, so I was looking for a recommendation for a basic belt that has a quick attach system.
The reason I want a quick attach is I use a 870 for HD use, so I want a belt that I can put on very fast if I wake up to a bump in the night. The only things I want on the belt is a Glock 19 in a Glock Sport/Combat, magazine pouch, and maybe a pouch for some shotgun shells. Nothing more will be needed. The quick attach is the most important feature I want on this belt, and it would be nice to wear it around the house as well if its comfortable enough. Any recommendations? |

Wearing a Pistol Belt with shot shells around the house eh? You live in Durham, Charlotte, or Greensboro? lol Look for a good Duty belt.. CXS Let me rephrase it: I want a belt that I could attach something for shotshells if I wanted to, but mostly just need a quick attach belt for a pistol & a magazine pouch for pissing around the house. Quick attach is needed because boxer shorts don't have belt loops at 2am. |

Look at a padded belt setup. If you don't want to go to an all out molle "warbelt," a padded belt will be comfortable enough to support the weight of a pistol and some ammo with the intention of not being worn through beltloops.

Get a holster with some retention. The GLOCK sport holster is okay for concealed carry or competition, but for rig you'll don when expecting action get something that will retain your weapon. If you need inexpensive, the SERPA duty holster isn't a bad choice. I personally don't care for them, but they are issued by many police departments.. for cost reasons.. but they work.
Another good option would be a Safariland 6377 with a duty belt loop. I've got an FDE 6377 on order from Optics Planet for my 1911 that I'm going to mount in an HSGI UDHP. I honestly would go for a padded duty belt setup with a quick release buckle. 2" duty belt and pad will be comfortable and support the load nicely. This would be a good pouch for your shotgun shells.. It is a MOLLE pouch.. but you can rock it on a duty belt no problem and the shells are retained by elastic and the flap. I've never used "tac ties" but you could always end up with a couple short MALICE clips and just use those instead. I really like Tactical Tailor's duty belt pad. Very well made piece of gear.. and right now you can get the tan(almost khaki-ish) model for $10! Can't beat that.. I didn't care for their duty belt simply because I don't like overlap in the front. I've got a Specter Duty Belt I ordered from Blackstone, and I love it. I've used it a lot, no way is it coming unbuckled without you doing it yourself. Charles @ Blackstone is a real good dude, and he has free shipping for ARFCOM members.. check his industry forum for the coupon code. |

I run a standard Safariland 2" duty belt, Tactical Taylor belt pad, Safariland ALS (Glock 21) on a HSGI drop holster for a "jump out" belt. I also have a radio and cuff pouch (work belt) but it’s pretty much what jonathon suggested. With a belt pad you won’t have to worry about keepers or the belt sagging. I'm not sure you need to go to a war belt, unless it's doing double duty like 3-gun.
If you’re looking to jump out of bed and throw it on I would stick with a belt holster so you’re not messing around with the leg strap on the drop down. |
