I am looking at armor plates to buy. I am not getting deployed or doing any type of contract work. I was thinking it might be a good ideal just in case, so I do not think weight will be to big of a issue. I was hoping anyone could help me to what they recommend on a brand they are willing to use without being to expensive. I know you get what you pay for but some of the plates I seen go for $1400.00.  I was hoping there is some brands that are reputable but easier on the pocket book. I was looking at level III or level IV armor and the plate carrier vest I was looking at purchasing was the new PIG from SKD.

Thank you
Steve

BulletProofMe is popular. They have a cheap(for rifle plates) level IV plate for ~200 something IIRC. Seems like Level III would be fine though(how worried are you of running into M2AP or 'the like' for your use?) if thats what you find.
