| Here's what I'm looking for. First off I am an instructor for a local LE as an OC instructor which means every month I get a nice dose of it during the training which sucks. Last week I got my first exposure to CS, and boy, that stuff is something I want no part of! I would like to add a mask to my gear incase of a large scale OC deployment (like the riot extinguishers, not the minis) or should tear gas need to be deployed again. What should I look for? I mentioned this to a guy I work with and he gave me what looks like an early 80s surplus mask. It has the drinking valve attachment and two "eyes." Surely there has to be better gear out there by now, or is this thing still fieldable? I'm green on this subject and while browsing around I have no idea what I'm looking at. |

I would guess that most LE agency's that can afford it are going with MSA masks. You can pick up a U.S. M40 surplus mask for a good price but you run the risk of not being able to inspect it if you know what to look for.
Masks with 40mm canister mounts are the most common although MSA also has a "bayonet" mount which is a push and a twist like a QD suppressor. This looks like a decent deal but I don't have any experience with this mask: Swedish mask I comes with 1 cartridge but the Scott enforcement cartridge is a pretty good deal when you need to replace: Scott cartridge |

How much do you want to spend? The Avon masks are military proven and you could keep the more expensive CRBN canister as a back up and use cheaper CS/OC canisters for training. See my post Bad A$$ gas mask. Well, the chances of actually using it are slim, I can only think of a handful of times in the past two years that it may have been useful, and twice I really wish I would have had one. But I would say in the price range of $300-$500? I thought about just a resperator briefly, but that would be useless against OC and CS as well as almost all other chemicals so a full on mask is needed I think. I'll look at your thread, thanks. |

Brand new Scott SEA surplus masks, this guy's been selling them or almost 2 years now. I have one from this exact same auction, they come sealed in a plastic enclosure with vacuum sealed filters.
