I just ordered a Spiritus Small GP Pouch to replace my MC med pouch, largely due to your bullying with those pictures.

Well I just swooped on a Thing 3 chest-rig chassis from Spiritus. I'm so gullible for this shit, lol, but I'm trying to zero in on the most modular, adaptable rig I can put together. So if anybody's got one built out, I'd love to see how you did it. I think my approach with this one will be piece by piece so I can hopefully avoid buying the wrong shit.

In the end, I know I'll just get bored with it and build something else.

If anybody's built a Spiritus Thing 3 out, post it up and gimme some idears!

Great starter project.  The more you do, the better it will get.  It’s definitely a measure twice (thrice), cut once.  I always start with a paper patterns. Once I dial that in, then I move to the cloth.  My sew lines re not always perfect, but I make stuff for me, so I don’t mind.

Most of my friends are the same way, though some of them are finally getting it dialed in and getting me to sew stuff on for them, or just sew them a set from scratch with the same layout they had.

Funny, it's almost always buttpack and 2 water bottle pouches (though sometimes with odd customizations  'add a single loop of molle here!') and then molle for their own mag pouches.

The real question is, does it work?  And will it fail on you?

Sure, measure better and you'll get better at straight and pretty stitching.  But the only real comment I'll add is that next time, fold over the exposed edges of the camo fabric, folding it under itself, so that the exposed parts aren't exposed any longer.

Otherwise it looks functional.

Going to be trying out the Carcajou Tactical Bravo Six Boonie / NVG Harness combo for a while.

What an epic pain in the ass to setup the first time. Cripes.

Recommend that if you are not running the PVS31 battery pack on the back, to supply your own strap to stand in for it, to keep the harness from flopping around. They should really ship it with a strap to use, if you elect to not use the battery pouch. IMHO. You can see the strap I added around the back, that weaves through the supplied passthroughs on the boonie.

I like the boonie mod setup myself.  I ran it with my binos in the woods this weekend.  I found that as long as I tighten my  nightcap down I don’t need a counterweight.

For me it feels way more stable than just a nightcap by itself.

Maybe that is what someone should offer. The buttpack and canteen pouches sewn and the rest molle.

that's more or less standard for aftermarket brit vendor nowadays (2 utilities instead of buttpacks, but a large buttpack style pouch is often offered)

Not many people do sewn on BUTTPACKS.  Utility pouches, yes.  Buttpacks, no.  Nixieworks has theirs.  And I do mine with buttpacks.

I need the volume of a buttpack. Utility pouches are just not big enough for my needs. Even if the volume of the two pouches are almost equal, they still won't hold a large thing.

There's a buttpack and one of my utility pouches that I just finished up today.  They are getting sewn onto a wide British style padded belt, similar-ish to the Crossfire belt.  Buttpack with a utility pouch on each side to hold water bottles or canteens.  They all ride the same height, to create a shelf.  I reinforce the inside of the buttpack where I sew it onto the belt with webbing, and the belt has a piece of webbing going all the way through the belt, that the buttpack gets sewn onto also, makes it nice a stable.  I put 4 x columns of molle on each side of those pouches.

I also do a molle attachment version of the buttpack (and water bottle pouches) - the buttpack takes up 6 x columns of molle, the water bottle pouches 2 x columns.  The buttpack is my flagship product, I sell more of those than anything.

There is a huge market for modifying VS17s.  Add glint tape in shapes…loop Velcro to the center for IFF patches or thermal vis panels…reversible to American Flag…
