Here in MN cold weather and snow is quickly approaching. I realized that i do not have any winter camo short of a large snow poncho. I really like the look of that Winter MARPAT but i dont think that is available. What would be the best type of pants to wear in a possible winter SHTF type situation? Normal BDU pants (prolly not)? Does anyone make durable pants that survive the winter in colors like white or grey, etc?

That winter MARPAT cant be found can it?

In the military, stationed in Germany, we had bad winters all the time.  It's expensive, but some gore-tex pants work great.  You can find them in most types of camo patterns.  That'll give you the wind and wanter resistant layer, then you just gotta dress in layers under that.  I suggest thermal underwear.  It'll help more then most people think!

ETA:  Tru-spec makes some good stuff.  If you find a dealer I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

May not be ubah tacticool, but I bought a nice pair of black snowboarding/snow pants from Dick's sporting goods last year when everything went on sale for a big discount (I think I ended up paying like $50). Honestly, if there is a SHTF scenario here in MN in the dead of winter, about the only thing you will be going outside for is to chop wood.

Just my opinion.

The best? Honestly, get yourself a great pair of wool pants, and just plain ol' white overwhite bottoms that you can get inexpensively. Do a bit of dusting work with some Krylon to break up the whiteness.Good thing about these is that you can change how you dress according to what the weather is. Sometimes you're better off wearing long underwear and a lightweight pant versus the wool. The ability to layer or be flexible is key. Overwhites let you do that. Otherwise, look into some hunting patterns that just don't have a lot to them. In the winter you really don't want a lot to break up the silhouette, or else you actually tend to stand out more.

I got insulated ski pants http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,1591H_Orage-Range-Ski-Pants-Waterproof-Insulated-For-Men.html

Since it doesn't snow much here I got them in OD (last year)

I bet quilted Carhartts will allow you to blend in very well in MN.  They definitely work in AK.

Why not just get a white camo oversuit that you can put over your regular winter clothes

Wool pants.

Gore-tex for wet conditions.

Fleece hunting snow camo over either the wool, the gore-tex, or both if you are just sitting.

What part of MN are you in? Places like Fleet Farm, Cabela's Gander Mountain, military surplus stores, etc... Anything that has stuff for coyote hunters as well. The one piece coverall is an option, you just lose some of the flexibility you would have with 2 piece garments.

Check out my Snow Camo review thread.

They are Natural Gear snow pattern and are light weight but not the most durable.

Cabeals has Kings Snow Shadow clothing. They also carry their own line of insulated(very thin insulation at that) and cover suits in Seclusion 3D snow pattern here

Pedator Camo also makes there own snow pattern gear here.

German over whites

Purchased surplus overwhites (non-U.S.) at Mill's Fleet Farm south of the Cities in late October.  Mill's has nice surplus section in most stores.  I've picked up a lot of kit that way at very fair prices.
