I have a Blackhawk harness now and its ok but tends to squeeze/crush my nuts when I run due to the placement of the buckles and thickness of the webbing. A couple of our other guys have Petzl basic commercial harnesses and they seem to be more comfortable. I'm looking to buy a new harnes that is more comfortable and need recommendations. I am going to stop in at the local outdoor gear store and see what the have (looks like mostly Black Diamond and Archteryx). I have seen Yates recommended but there isn't anywhere local that I can try one to see if it works for me and make sure I get the correct size. Is there any reason that a commercial harness would not work as well as one designed for "tactical" use?
ETA: any reason I can't or shouldn't go inverted in a commercial harness? |
| Go commercial, they're more comfy, and are plenty strong. I have a blackdiamond that's nice and comfy. The only reason they wouldn't work for "tactical" use is because they aren't "approved" by higher hq (and the buckles might be shiny). That said, I've never done a shooting package with a harness on, so I can't say how comfortable/practical it would be to run around with one on. |

| I like the concept of using one of these for the basis of a war belt.. http://www.tadgear.com/shop.php?id=435 |
| Ok, I went to the store and ended up buying this Black Diamond Momentum AL. I tried it on in the store and it will definately be more comfortable. Thanks for the input. |

BD and Petzl are the only two I'd really look at. Arcteryx makes a nice harness but they get a premium for their name. The wide-strapped "tactical" harness are no fun to use all day. |
| I like the Yates because of the rear hardpoint since I find myself doing Aussie way more than standard. If I had to wear it all day long with a tactical set-up I would just leave the leg straps a little loose. The are real fast and easy to tighten up with the Yates. |
