I have attached a M1967 sleeping bag carrier to the bottom of my ruck to carry my MSS bedroll.  One thing that I can not figure out & really doesn't matter is:

What is the velcro pile on the inside of the carrier for?  There is/was no velcro on those old mountain bags or even the jungle bags, so why would they have two strips of it on the carrier?  On the inside no less?

Anyone???

I do NOT have velcro on my carrier.  Hell it was hard to find velcro in 1967!  Did it even exist?  I bet that was added sometime later, maybe for a users specific need?

Yep, I found that too.  However, I am not refering to the velcro strapping...  I am refering to the two (2) long strips of pile on the "inside" of the carrier that run parallel to the securing straps.  Appreciate the trial for info.  I can't find this item in any FM for use & care.  So I am wondering if there was an additive for it later after production as stated above??

Anyone?  Anyone?  I realize there wasn't much need for sleeping bags in Vietnam, but someone here may have had one of these carriers & knows how it was used???  Maybe a link to an FM on this particular bag carrier??

I have even gone to that place with all the books in it, where people used to go before computers & they had nothing on the subject...   Maybe I should email Dr Atwater at the military historical museum in VA & see if he knows?  Anyone near there able to get info from there for me?

the velco was to help cause some friction between the "slippery" fabric of the nylon M-67 carrier and the poncho and poncho liner....nylon in its own right is slippery, and the poncho and liner make it real slippery, the added velco help grab the rubber poncho or slickness of the liner..thats all the velco does.........also the M67 sleeping GEAR carrier was really made just to carry the poncho and poncho liner and air matress and not a sleeping bag per se....the M56 sleeping bag carrier was used to carry the M49 bag ,shelter half , air matress  etc....if you can find one this will do a better job to secure your MSS.....vince g. 11B inf...

Thankyou!!!  That solves my mystery!

I am using the carrier to carry my .  I had thought about the "spaghetti straps", but just use the patrol bag & the bivy combo mostly.  That set up fits inside my medium ruck with plenty of room to spare.

Thanks again!
