What is the best 3 day pack for use with a precision rifle?
What features should I look for? What features should I avoid? |
|
For a dedicated rifle support pack, I really like panel loaders for ease of organization and quick access to specific items. I prefer the Kifaru Marauder.

eberlestock I try to buy American made gear when possible. The Eberlestock packs are made in Vietnam. Not sure if that matters to the OP or not. Do you have a source for this. I thought I read on his site thst he makes these packs??? I bought a used Phantom last year and it had a "Made in Vietnam" tag. |
| Eberlestock packs fill a unique need regardless of where they are made. No one else makes packs that do what they do the way they do. If they do what you need and no one else's does, it's an option regardless where it is made. I have a Gunslinger 05 model, and it would work great as a 3day carrying the rifle, letting you use your hands for a more appropriate weapon. Otherwise, any of the quality 3 day packs would function. You customize what you need according to what you need to carry. |

I wonder if you got a copy or if I got lucky??? BTW how is the M1A holding for ya |

Everything I've read says they're made in Vietnam to Eber's specs. I had a Gunslinger and didn't bother to look for a "Made in XXX" tag when I had it. No matter though, the quality of the pack was excellent, on par with any of the USA made gear / packs that I have IMO. I ended up not liking the design, and I really wanted to. With a rifle in the scabbard the pack is cumbersome to load / access / manipulate when not worn. I didn't really like to rest the bag portion on the rifle, with 20-30 pounds of whatever sitting on a precision rifle / optic.
I'm a big fan of panel loaders, especially for a use such as this. Kifaru Marauder would be a great choice if you can swing the $$$. If you don't mind ACU, the ATS RAID for $55 is a decent option. |

Doing great! That's wierd about your tag. If you google "eberlestock made in vietnam" you will find other threads where people have noted the same thing. Maybe they started making them here now. ETA, does you tag say Made in USA or does it say Eberlestock USA? Made in USA and I am glad the M1A is rolling along. I see your footprints across the street from time to time |

OK guys, I just called Eberlestock and asked them where their packs are made. I was told that ALL packs are made in Vietnam. The rep. I spoke with said he was only aware of 1 pack that was made in the U.S. and it was at the Eberlestock office. He clarified that what you guys are seeing is a tag that says Boise, ID meaning that the company is in Boise, but that does not mean they are made there. Again, he confirmed ALL packs are made in Vietnam.
Now, let me add, I had a Phantom and it was a good pack. I am not suggesting they make bad packs at all, only stating that I try to buy US made gear when possible. If you don't care where it comes from, no problem. They are great designs. |

I try to buy US gear when possible as well. I avoid Blackhawk with a passion as well as Condor, Voodoo, and other foreign made nylon. My packs are mostly Eagle, ATS, Camelbak, etc. However, as stated before, the Eberlestock packs fit a niche that no one else does, and they do it well. I wouldn't trade my Gunslinger for anything except a new Gunslinger. The quality is there, so don' look at it blindly as to where it was made in your decision. It should be an important factor, but not THE sole factor. |
| Agreed, they are not like blackhawk that steals other's (Eagle) designs and farms the out to Vietnam. My only problem is that if you are going to use Vietnamese labor give us a Vietnamese price. These pack are priced similarly to what Eagle could make them for in the U.S. |
