Hi guys, I'm looking into getting an instructor belt, I don't really like the rigger's belts, I don't need the extra harness point.  This belt will be used as my every day belt for work and just general use.  The thing is I always carry my Kimber 1911 with me, so I would like a stiff, nylon belt that will last for a while.  Are the 5.11 instructor belts good for this, or can you recommend something better?  Thanks all...

i personally do not like the 511 brand belt. They are not sized exactly. They are general sizes  for several waist sizes. The problem with this is you can have excess belt  which gets in the way of the  most holsters. I would suggest looking at belts made in for your exact size. I only use Wilderness brand belts myself.

I bought the Wilderness belt. It's about as sturdy as it gets. I really like it for carrying a handgun.

I agree on the 5.11.  One size was too small on the next size up was too big in the sense that the extra length wrapped around my waist and hit the holster.  I thought I was the only one who had this problem.

I went with the Wilderness Instructor belt w/the 5 stich.  Couldn't be happier.

Thanks for the advice.  I went ahead and ordered the Wilderness origonal instructor belt with the steel buckle, titanium is just too expensive for a belt.  I upgraded to the 5 stitch and got it in OD.  They shipped it the same day and should be here on Wednesday.

I have an Uncle Mikes instructor belt, which is a copy of the Wilderness with the plastic stiffener.
I only have the Uncle Mikes because it was the only 'instructor' belt I could find locally to try on.

I'm going to have to buy a new belt soon, and it will definitely be the real-deal Wilderness, but I'm thinking it'll be 5-stitch model, the stiffener is just too much. I'd never load the belt with enough stuff the require the plastic insert.

The 'Frequent Fliyer's Belt' from Wilderness is my everyday belt. I do have a couple of the Instructors
belts, but, I have to pass thru a metal detector on a regular basis and this belt does not have to
be removed.

I love their products.

The Velcro on my Wilderness is getting pretty shabby (4 years daily wear)
and the belt takes a bit of a "set" where it feeds through the buckle.

I still think it's the stoutest belt for the money and I know Wilderness will do a rebuild anytime I want.

BAH!!!  Got my Wilderness instructor belt yesterday...  It's just a little too big.  I thought I went by the recommendations of people who had reviewd this belt on other websites, but to my folly.  They are going to exchange it for me though, so I just have to send this one back.  Shucks!  That is one nice belt, I hate to have to send it back, but if it is too big...

Hmm, wish I had read this thread 3 days ago, before I ordered the 5.11 Tactical 1¾" in Coyote Brown.  Of course at $24.49, it is almost half the price of the Wilderness...

I just bought two 511 1.5" belts from Galls in San Diego (one black and one coyote).  They were $12.99 each and I also got the 10% discount for being retired military.  Great belt in my opinion, nice stiff material, non-metallic buckle.  If it is too long, cut it down and reseal the edgeds with a flame......

Nope, doesn't work that way.  The Wilderness belts need to be sized correctly.  The problem isn't the length of the belt itself. The problem is that the velcro that holds your excess material after threading through the buckel is so far towards the end of the belt that it stops at the buckle because it is so stiff.  The single layer part of the belt threads through the buckle and back and then gets velcro'd to the main belt body, but the velcro on the main belt body is thick and won't thread through the buckle, so I have no room to cinch the belt down.  These belts are not for a 4 or 5 inch adjustability.  Ideally, there should be a 1.5 inch + or - to adjust for a sidearm or maybe some weight-gain.
