You can put just about any blade on your gear.  The only problem being is that you need to be able to attach it via a sheath.

There are molle straps, molle locks, tech-lok, malice clips, alice clips, 550 cord, etc..

Molle straps, as seen above, will loop through both sides of molle straps (on the sheath side and gear side).

Molle Locks work well and generally are tough, will not loop through both straps.

Tech-loks are probably the strongest attachment points, but they will only fit through one parallel line of straps.

Malice Clips are the strongest of the attachments that loop through both sides of the molle straps.

Alice clips are decently strong, but have been known to lose their lock without it being obvious.

550 Cord can be as good as your own ability to lash to your gear.

an example of looping through both sides to increase retention of the sheath

Here's one you may wanna consider........I had good luck with it over two deployments and never had to sharpen it.  It's a Cold Steel Culloden...and I know....a lot of guys will talk smack about Cold Steel, Japanese blades..etc.....but I have no regrets with the purchase.  The blade is 3.5" long, the handle puts it a little over 6 " overall...but its barely over 1/4" at its thickest point.  It weighs about 4 oz.....you'll never know its even there.  I only used it for cutting 550 chord, bootlaces, open MRE's, etc.  It was a perfect choice for my rack system.  I mounted it upside down on the upper left portion of my rack for quick access and the case kept it secure.  The picture shows my daughter holding it......she is a petite teenager with tiny hands. I also had a k-bar style blade for heavier work, but I'm the sort that believes if one blade is good, two are better.

The Rat Cutlery RC-3 is the better version, IMHO.

SOG Seal Pup Elite. They used to be ~$100. I picked one up for $60 (which is the current price point). It comes with a MOLLE sheath. The sheath isn't the important part though, so many companies make mult-attachment sheaths it's not an issue.

I'd say go for the SEAL Pup though. I love SOGS, my Many multi-tool is a SOG, my EDC folder is a SOG trident, and my fixed blade is the SEAL Pup.

LAPoliceGear.com has the Gerber Prodigy for $45 and the Gerber Military Tactical LMF II - A.S.E.K. Knife for $60 on sale right now.
They also have the SEAL Pup for $60 which is the one that comes with the MOLLE Sheath.

I carry the RAT knife myself.  Has done well for me so far.  Decent price too.

If you have a knife on your chest, consider how you place it might hinder your magazine draw.

If it does, maybe get a smaller knife, or move it... or get one that clips to the inside edge of your pocket and folds up.

I carry a tan Gerber ASEK on the left PALs of my SKD/Eagle rig.  I use the lower MOLLE adapter to attach a single mag pouch to the front of the scabbard for carrying a firestarter/multi-tool:

Longer handle and pointed pommel...nice additions.  For the chest rig I do still like the smallest package possible....pers pref I guess...

RAT knives are very well designed tools, no doubt.

Rat Cutlery RC-3 MIL or the Rat Cutlery Izula.  I own both and both are awesome!   Currently I carry the Izula behind my M4 shingle pouch.  Also, Rat has an EXCELLENT  warranty!

+1 for the SEAL Pup. I have the old version, bought it at Clothing Sales in Korea in '99 when my Ek Model 5 was too long to keep in my barracks room. It survived multiple Stateside and overseas trips where it was often used as a sharp crowbar. Now I have destroyed two scabbards though...
